Planning on driving the motorhome or pulling the trailer out in the next couple of months? You won’t be alone. A survey indicates 21 million Americans plan on RVing between now and early January. The 2024 holiday RVing will be a big thing.
2024 holiday RVing: 9 million on turkey day, 7 million for Christmas
A new survey from the RV Industry Association (RVIA) reveals that millions of Americans are planning to travel by RV this holiday season. The survey found that 21 million Americans plan to go RVing between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, with 9 million hitting the road for Thanksgiving and 7 million for Christmas.
“The holidays are a special time to connect with loved ones, and RVing provides the perfect opportunity to gather with family and friends while enjoying the beauty of nature, or having your own accommodations while visiting family,” said RVIA spokesperson Monika Geraci. “Whether you’re seeking snowy adventures, headed south for warmer weather, or traveling to see friends and family, an RV allows you to create lasting memories in a comfortable and convenient setting.”
Key findings from the survey
- RVing is a year-round activity: 35% of leisure travelers plan to take an RV trip in the next year.
- Top winter RV trip types: Visiting family (63%) and road trips (57%).
- Top reasons for winter RV trips: Snowbirding (57%) and seeking winter/snow-based experiences (45%).
- RV purchase consideration: About 25% of leisure travelers say they would like to purchase an RV in the coming months.

Well, gratefully, we won’t be among them.
Us either..
Hell no!
Yet another completely useless article…🙄
I felt the same way about your comment. Please be better.
I keep hoping RVtravel will “be better”…It used to be insightful and useful for the RV community…it has changed in recent times.
I am curious Paul what you found insightful or useful…other than to feel powerful in berating my opinion?
We have one simple rule: NEVER TRAVEL DURING THE HOLIDAYS OR OVER HOLIDAY WEEKENDS.
Being retired there is no need to do so. We leave that for the families who have limited time off due to school schedules.
I love this! Nice to know others think like this! Thanks Billinois for sharing! 😃
Can we address the CANADIAN invasion of RVers to the US who are overwhelming our campgrounds especially with storm recovering Florida less of an option this winter?
Definitely would have been a more useful and insightful article than this one! 😃
Gonna be a lot of traffic over Thanksgiving. Thank you Captain Obvious.
“Plan to” and actually going are two different things and as far as the final key finding listed – I (as a leisure traveler) would also “like to” purchase an RV in the coming months. Does that mean I will? Not likely. When the survey is by the RVIA, I would think that there may have been a little bias in the way the questions were worded.
Thank you, Russ and Tina! We did “hit the road” for Thanksgiving, but only traveled about 50, 55 miles and did so in the Grand Cherokee, which makes it easier to travel with Weagle (our 18-month-old Aussie). Relative to the pictured RV with a bedroom slide that extends from the rear of the RV, we were next to a similarly configured RV at a campground at Dawson Creek a few years ago. There certainly are sites well-suited to such a slide, such as those at that campground. Have a great day and safe travels!
