Really enjoy this information
So do I.
Thank you, Janet! 🙂 Red Creek Cabins and RV Park is close to both a national forest and the Gulf of Mexico, so I think claiming to be a hidden gem is reasonable. Reading through the Matthews Arm website for its features was amusing. Almost every aspect listed (e.g., cell service) was a “No.” They do have potable water and a dump station available part of the year. Thanks again for this wide-ranging, helpful, and interesting column! Safe travels and safe stays! 🙂
I’ve lived in Colorado for 60 years and worked in every corner of the state. I’ve never heard of a “city” named Huerfano in Colorado. We have Huerfano County, with its county seat at Walsenburg, the only “city” in the county. The county also includes the town of La Veta and many smaller, former coal camps and company towns, but none named Huerfano. The campsites mentioned in this article are likely in Walsenburg, which also has a great campground, public golf course, and two good fishing lakes at Lathrop State Park. We have camped there a number of times, as well as just off US 160 in a private RV park in the town of La Veta. There are also several USFS cgs. in the county.
Hi, Steve. Oops. We goofed. It’s been updated with the correct information. It was the Huerfano County Council that approved the new campground at the property near Gardner. Thank you for calling this to our attention. Have a great day. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
