Honda CR-V Hybrid recall – Short can lead to fire

If you drive one, by aware of a Honda CR-V Hybrid recall. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2020-2022 CR-V Hybrid vehicles. The 12-volt battery cable routed outside of the body frame is missing a fuse on the power circuit, which can allow the battery cable to short circuit or overheat during a crash. An overheated battery cable or short circuit can increase the risk of a fire or injury in a crash. 106,030 of these CRVs may be affected.

Remedy

In this Honda CR-V Hybrid recall, dealers will replace the battery cable, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 29, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda’s number for this recall is FGB.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! Well, as little as I like my Grand Cherokee towed vehicle, at least it has not been recalled, yet. 😉 But, then again, CR-Vs can no longer be towed 4-down. Oh well. 😉

Thank goodness I still have my flat towable CR-V. 2014 last year they made them that way.

I have no idea of what the ampere-hour rating is in a hybrid but probably huge. If a shorted battery cable didn’t quickly burn through, I suppose the whopper battery could explode. In 1945 when I was riding with my dad in our 1939 Buick, the battery cable traveled through a frame cross member from the engine compartment to the 6 volt battery located under the front bench seat. The insulation wore through and shorted the battery which was destroyed. After inspection to see what happened, we coasted on down the hill and at the bottom turned immediately into the Standard Station on the corner for a new cable and battery. Since the battery was not enclosed, open to the road, no damage to the car
