Honda recall – 2.5 million called back for bad fuel pump

In a huge recall covering four model years, a Honda recall will affect more than just a few drivers. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Honda Accord, Civic Coupe, Civic Sedan, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline, Odyssey, Acura ILX, MDX, MDX Hybrid, RDX, RLX, TLX, 2019-2020 Honda Insight, Passport, 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid, 2018-2019 Honda Clarity PHEV, Fit, and 2017-2020 Honda Accord Hybrid, Acura NSX vehicles. The fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail. Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. The total number of affected vehicles is 2,539,902.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 5, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda’s numbers for this recall are KGC and KGD. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall numbers 21V-215 and 20V-314.

Is 2.3 million a lot? Unfortunately it is not a push button fix. Instead, you will need to take a few hours out of your day, maybe get a loaner, maybe take an UBER, maybe just wait for it if you have nothing better to do that day.

Thanks for the CLEAR non-virtue signaling, recall report. My son- in-law drives one of these so I will be touching base given he is the driver in that household.

Thankyou guys again for another Honda recall report. And, again thankfully, my 2014 is not involved. Whew!

Thank you, Russ and Tina! I find the lag between the recall’s announcement and the date letters are sent remarkable, and not in a good way. Thankfully you put this news out and perhaps word-of-mouth will get it to a few people in time to save them from a deadly crash. Oh, and just for fun, I began reading the list of models affected to DW and exhausted her well before the end. Thanks again, Russ and Tina, and merry Christmas! 🙂
