Huge recall of Jeep Wranglers and Grand Cherokees for fire risk

Stellantis (Chrysler) is issuing a Jeep plug-in hybrid recall affecting more than 320,000 Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee vehicles in the U.S. after high-voltage batteries were found to be at risk of catching fire. The recall covers Wranglers built from July 2020 through August 2025, and Grand Cherokees from July 2021 through mid-October 2025.

Battery cells can suffer damage that creates a potential fire hazard—even in vehicles previously repaired under Recall 95B. Samsung SDI, the battery supplier, found that certain cells may have separator damage. Combined with other complex battery interactions, this defect can cause overheating and fire. Stellantis and Samsung SDI are continuing to investigate the full cause to develop a permanent fix.

Jeep plug-in hybrid recall shows 19 “reports” and one injury

Stellantis has logged 19 reports potentially tied to the issue, including one injury, though it has not confirmed any accidents. The company urges owners to take the warning seriously: park their vehicles outside, away from buildings, and do not charge the battery until a repair is available. The affected battery packs carry part numbers 68488244AA and 68540591AA.

CEO Antonio Filosa said last month the company will invest $13 billion in U.S. operations to maintain momentum in the market. The recall comes as Stellantis works to regain market share in North America after reducing inventory backlogs and reversing previous cost-cutting measures.

Affected owners will be contacted when the repair becomes available. For the latest updates on the Jeep plug-in hybrid recall and safety guidance, owners can check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website here. Taking prompt action can help prevent potential fires and keep drivers and their families safe.

So, owners are told not to charge the battery, but I believe batteries in hybrids charge while on the road under fossil fuel power, right? It does say the issue exists while driving. So, for all these owners, they effectively have an expensive boat anchor until a fix is devised?

Geez. It seems like there is a new recall every week. Especially on domestic brands. So I wonder since Jeep is owned by Stellantis, this week, are other Stellantis brands around the world being recalled too.
