Hurricane Debby tosses trailers at Cocoa, FL, RV park

At least one person was hurt and one RVer left homeless when Hurricane Debby tossed trailers in Florida. Late Sunday night, the hurricane made an unwelcome appearance in Cocoa, in Florida’s Brevard County.

Park becomes an “attraction” after Hurricane Debby tosses trailers

Sonrise Palms RV Park, which proudly proclaims it’s between two major attractions, the Kennedy Space Center and Disney World, is now a sort of attraction itself after the big wind blasted through.

Five RVs were flipped over, one of them giving a person inside a nasty ride, resulting in another ride to the hospital.

One RVer, David Everett, calls Sonrise Palms his home. Happily, he wasn’t home when Debby brought her destruction—he was away visiting family. Everett says it was a good thing—the rig’s refrigerator was tossed onto his bed. Had he been there at the time, he may have been in that bed. It’s a silver lining in David Everett’s Debby-formed cloud. The RV was Everett’s home, and now it’s gone.

Friends from the Cocoa community have rallied around Everett to give him support. They’ve put him up until he can figure the problem out. Hurricane Debby tossed trailers, but it hasn’t been able to extinguish hope.

Russ and Tiña went from childhood tent camping to RVing in the 1980s when the ground got too hard. They've been tutored in the ways of RVing (and RV repair) by a series of rigs, from truck campers, to a fifth-wheel, and several travel trailers. In addition to writing scores of articles on RVing topics, they've also taught college classes for folks new to RVing. They authored the book, RV Boondocking Basics.

Cocoa, Florida is in Brevard County, not Broward.

Hurricanes and hot, humid weather are a couple of reasons we will never live in Florida.

I would never live there for the alligators dinner party.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! 🙂 My goodness! Given the destruction, I am thankful only one person was hospitalized. 🙂 Thanks again, have a great week, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂

How does this happen?

Hurricanes are tracked multiple days in advance as they head toward the states known for hurricanes so why don’t the owners move these things designed to be moved?

I can understand a tornado dropping out of the blue but to get caught off guard by a hurricane? Are people really that complacent while they question why insurance companies are leaving Florida?
