Keystone is recalling thousands of RVs. Circuit board overheat could cause fire

Keystone is recalling thousands of RVs for overheated circuit board problems. Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Montana, 2021-2022 Montana High Country, 2022-2024 Fuzion, 2021 Crossroads Cruiser, and 2024 Dutchmen Aspen Trail LOFT vehicles. The LED backlight circuit board in the cooktop range may fail, causing the board to overheat. A circuit board that overheats increases the risk of a fire. 10,894 RVs are potentially affected.

Remedy

Dealers can remove the LED backlights or terminate the circuit for the red LED lights, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 17, 2024. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone’s number for this recall is 24-452.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Additional information of interest

Because the circuit boards in question “did not have the correct amount of coating to properly seal the circuit board from contamination,” cooking residues could infiltrate the board. “The lack of adequate coating in the connection passages between the layers of the PCB can allow liquid from the cooktop surface to accumulate which could result in a short circuit resulting in failure of the PCB,” says an official filing with the NHTSB.

As far back as September 15, 2023, an “Initial report was made lights had melted on suburban stove knobs.” Users could detect a potential problem when the LED backlights of the cooktop knobs can remain on even when they are in the off position. The LED backlights can come on and stay illuminated at random. Keystone is recalling thousands of rigs. Is it possible that the push for more “bling” has backfired?

Thank you, Russ and Tina! 🙂 Yikes! Recalls are announced about weekly, but today’s Monday, so might there be another from someone by Friday, Saturday? Oh my! The poor RV buyers! 🙁 Thanks again, safe travels, and have a great week! 🙂

Could it be Keystone bought the cheapest piece of crap they could find and why is the fix to disconnect the piece of crap instead of replacing. I guess money is the reason.

We have a 2023 Winnebago FLX and got a recall for our stove. I just want to find out what fuse to pull to shut the whole board off.
