This story takes “close encounters” to a whole new level! It’s not every day you hear about a Missouri Sheriff Patrol Officer pulling over a UFO on Interstate 44, but that’s exactly what happened the morning of July 1, 2024. Buckle up, because this is one traffic stop that’s clearly out of this world.
Typical morning
It all began just after sunrise when Crawford County Sheriff Patrol Officer Matt Graves was conducting his routine patrol on I-44. What started as a typical morning quickly turned into something straight out of a science fiction movie.
Graves spotted an unusual vehicle zipping down the interstate. At first glance, Graves thought it might be some experimental aircraft or an elaborate prank. As the officer approached, it became clear that this was no ordinary vehicle.
Describing the craft as a “sleek, silver disk with glowing blue lights,” Graves decided to pull whatever it was over because the vehicle was committing a lane violation. The officer also noted that the UFO had an expired Indiana license plate.

Graves approached with caution. “I’ve seen a lot of things on this job, but nothing like this,” he later told reporters.
You can see just what Officer Graves witnessed as he looked through his patrol car windshield.
Driver
Steve Anderson, the driver of the vehicle, created the spaceship car. Built from a 1991 Geo Metro, the UFO vehicle garners attention wherever Anderson goes. His bumper sticker reads: “Follow us to the UFO Festival.”
Destination
Officer Graves questioned the occupants of the silver disc, who were friendly and cooperative. The officer learned the two were on their way to Roswell, New Mexico. (Where else?!)
The 2024 UFO Festival runs from July 5th to 7th. Thousands of folks are expected to attend the planned activities: film expo, a convention for aliens, and more.
Ticket
The UFO driver was provided with a written warning for the highway violations.

Later, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office posted pictures and a humorous post on social media. The story and accompanying photos quickly went viral.
Public Information Officer and Undersheriff Major Adam Carnal said, “Given the good nature of the driver and the interesting nature of the vehicle, we opted to provide a fun social media post for our community. It was a great interaction and we wished him safe travels to his destination.”
A story to tell
In the wake of this incident, one thing is certain: Officer Matt Graves has a story to tell that’ll be hard to top at the next patrol meeting.
So, the next time you’re cruising down I-44, keep an eye out—you never know what you might see. And remember, even in Missouri, no one is above the law—not even visitors from another galaxy!

What a great story! Thanks for sharing it!
Agreed!! Got a nice laugh out of it.
Thank you, Gail! 🙂 Really cool car! Have a great holiday, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
Thanks Gail! I needed this today! HA HA.
The driver is from here in Indianapolis. He owns an auto repair garage on the North side and has this car and other ‘creations’ outside his facility. Pretty neat to drive by and see!
