We’re constantly testing RVtravel.com and making sure everything is running smoothly and looks good. We want you to enjoy spending time on our website! While comparing our desktop (computer) and mobile (phone and tablet) versions, we noticed our desktop site just… well… it just looks nicer! Things work a little better on it, we’re able to display more content… it’s just better! But then we got to thinking. We wonder how many of our readers (that’s you!) even own a computer (desktop or laptop).
So, do you own a desktop or laptop computer? Tell us in the poll below. And if you do have a computer, if it’s possible, we suggest you read our newsletters on it. It will look better! But not a big deal if you like reading on your phone. It works too. 🙂
Thank you!

I only use a laptop because I cannot run some programs like Turbo Tax on my smart phone. I could run Microsoft Office on my phone but it is too cumbersome to do so. I always read RV Travel on my phone, but the pop-up ads (in the articles) are becoming a real pain in the butt. As a contributor to RV Travel I get the “ad free” version, but that description is misleading as it is definitely not ad free.
Carl … with all the changes and evolutions we see with computers, you reckon it’ll be long before we have a fully featured PC on our cellphones? I’m pretty much banking on it, but what gives me fits is my big old fat fingers mis-key all the time on a cellphone keyboard AND I can’t see enough on a cellphone screen. I may be an old-timer but I appreciate all the conveniences technology provides. I mean, I lay in the bed and read Kindle on my cellphone or watch YouTube on my cellphone now! I’m excited to see what is coming down the pipe!
I use an Apple iPad for most Internet browsing and reading. Much better on the eyes than using a smartphone. I use an Apple iPad, in a landscape orientation, for most Internet browsing and reading, which is much more like a desktop experience. Running DuckDuckGo, as the web browser, eliminates much of the advertising and makes what remains much more tolerable.
Sorry, Carl. Yes, the members newsletters themselves are ad-free, but the posts attached still have ads. That would require more “manpower” (“personpower”?) than we have available to produce two copies of everything. Maybe you could block the ads, or use a different browser, like some readers have recommended? Thank you for being a contributor. We appreciate that, and we appreciate you! Have a great day. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
As a contributer, I don’t get the “paid” version on my tablet. Must use laptop/desktop for that version. Laptop travels in RV. But, l use tablet 95% of the time. Smart phone is just for phone/texting.
Hi, Tom. I just heard back from Kim, our very smart IT dude. Here’s what he said: “The ONLY way that can happen is if he has two separate email addresses subscribed: one paid, and one not. So he needs to add his desktop email account to his tablet and, voila, members edition. If he’s getting double emails at that point he should unsubscribe from the free version.” I hope that works for you.🤞 Let us know if it doesn’t. Have a good afternoon/evening. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
We have a home in Florida and New Jersey, and have an Apple iMac in each location. Great easy to use desktop computers, and all data is synced across each computer, also including synced with my iPhone, iPad, and an older Apple laptop. Each home also has an Apple Mac Mini server running DIY home automation software from https://www.indigodomo.com/. The software allows you to build a home automation system to monitor and control most home functions remotely over the Internet. Likewise, our LVT Unity U24TB, also has an Apple Mac Mini(connected to the main Unity TV for a monitor) running the same home automation software, which allows me to remotely monitor the Unity.
I got rid of my desktop computer, and now use only an iPad and iPhone.
And yes, there is a perfectly usable TurboTax app for iPad.
I still have a desktop computer. I also have a laptop that I take with me when traveling.
I guess I could get away with an iPad but I still like sitting at the desk browsing and snoozing.
I have both a desktop at home and a full blown laptop, not a Chromebook or notebook type unit that has limited capabilities.
I also have an Ipad for checking emails and searching the web. I do wish I had bought a small notebook with a keyboard though.
Your hosting provider should be able to easily analyze the server logs and give you a breakdown of what devices and browsers people are using to access your site.
David, That’s NOT the point of the Reader’s Poll.
Currently, I only have my cell phone and my desktop, which is what I use most of the time. I really like having a Laptop while traveling, but finding a laptop that doesn’t crap out after a few years (just like my last one did) is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
We are full timers. I have a mobile device and an iPad. My boyfriend has a laptop but uses it very rarely. Neither of us have a desktop.
I worked remotely for many years in a high-tech industry. So yes, I have a top-end laptop. BUT I frequently also use a tablet or cell phone and appreciate when a web site accommodates that format. Many of the RVers I meet only have a smart phone.
Smart phone for calls, text, and music. Large screen laptop for internet browsing, forums, and newsletters. I can’t tolerate the eye strain using my smart phone.
I use a lap top not my cell phone but my wife uses her cell phone primarily.
At home, my husband uses a desktop for most things, he has a laptop when he works from home. (Frustrates him a bit, since he doesn’t have two huge monitors as he does in his office.)
I mostly use the laptop, iPad when I’m in my recliner, and phone. Many things are easier on the laptop. Last trip, I took just the iPad, which has a keyboard, and my phone. I found a few things that I just couldn’t do well, including one of my email accounts, and doing medical forms ahead of an appt. Lesson learned, laptop goes on any trip, even if I use the iPad and phone much of the time.
Your hubby and I are simpatico with our computers. Having 2 monitors makes life so much easier!
Two desktop, two laptop, 2 iPads and one iPhone. Can’t have too many Computers, cameras or radios.
At home, wifey and I both have desktop computers. We have a laptop we take RV’ing (and when at home I use it in my ham shack). We both have iPads as well. Wifey uses hers a lot while mine mostly collects dust. It almost sounds like we’re part of the super-connected crowd doesn’t it? GASP!
I grew up with a 13 inch black and white TV. Never understood why anyone wants to watch anything on a 5 inch cell phone. Plus I have friends who are always on social media on their cell phones and complain when the battery dies after 2 hours (social media eats batteries). I use my phone for calls not social media and prefer to have it ready for emergencies.
I still have a 15″ black and white TV. The color hurt my eyes and a buddy went into the menu and figured out how to make it black and white for me. The only setback is when the weather man has all those colors on the map, but I just look outside to see the weather. I do not have an iPhone, I have a MY Phone that flips open and closed when needed Yes, I do still function in this society, but I guess I am not “social”?
I own three laptops. My newest one is a 15-inch Dell Inspiron. I kept my old Dell Latitude (with Windows XP) and am very glad I did because I’ve had two laptops that croaked and I used the old Latitude as a backup. My third laptop is my very first one — a 2004 twelve-inch Apple PowerBook, which still works, albeit very slowly. I guess the main reason for keeping it is that probably no one would buy it and I’d hate to just throw it away.
Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 Yes, we currently have 2 fully functional laptop computers. After we retired, we turned the office into a bedroom. We almost never even turn on a computer now and use our phones as computers if we need one. Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂
We have a little older Asus Chromebook that I keep in the motorhome and a relatively new Acer Chromebook as my go-to online access. Recently we replaced a very old laptop with a used HP laptop Windows 11 I bought at a pawnshop very reasonably. I download movies on it and bring it camping. It’s also our “desktop” for important stuff. Additionally, we both have iphone 14s. I would go into serious withdrawal without all of that information at my fingertips–especially RVTravels!
Both a desktop and a laptop.
Same here. Desktop upstairs in the office, laptop downstairs in the kitchen. Primarily use the laptop and that’s what we take on our trips. Never use the iPhone for reading or commenting on subjects other than searching for locations (restaurants, gas stations, places of interest, etc.). Always read the RV Travel newsletter on either the desktop or laptop. Never have had the problems many readers have mentioned while reading this newsletter or any of the other publications I subscribe to.
I own a laptop, Chrome book, and at tablet. I use the Chrome book the most followed closely by the tablet. The laptop is used mainly when I am working on a project that requires more memory or need a program that isn’t on my Chrome book. I can send stuff from the Chrome book to the laptop because I have them linked.
Nothing but a Thinkpad Laptop since 1994, a powerhouse with 500mb memory… now it’s 1tb…
MacBook Air for 90% of my daily internet searches and online orders.
The iPhone handles the rest. My desktop is mainly used for spread sheets, and tracking the RV repairs and information logging.
2 Dell Inspiron PCs (over 7 yo, still going strong) and Dell Inspiron Plus Laptop (brand new today). Only the laptop goes in my coach! LOL!
