Every year, when you’re laying out your travel plans, do you find yourself booking reservations at the same campgrounds or RV parks? Are these spots just so comfortable and familiar that you keep going back year after year? If so, is it one special place that you revisit, or do you have a few favorite destinations you rotate through?
For those who return to the same places, what is it about them that keeps drawing you back? Maybe it’s the comfort of knowing exactly what to expect when you arrive—no surprises, no stress about whether the site will meet your needs. Perhaps you’ve developed a connection with the campground staff, or the local community, making the experience feel more like visiting friends. There’s also something to be said for the predictability of familiar activities, like favorite hiking trails, fishing spots, or local eateries that have become part of your routine.
Additionally, do you try to reserve the same campsite each time? Maybe you’ve found that one perfect spot with the best views, privacy, or proximity to amenities. Or do you like to mix it up and try different sites, either within the same park or at new locations altogether?
After casting your vote, we’d love to hear more about your decision. What keeps bringing you back? Is it the allure of tradition, the bond of family gatherings, the convenience of familiar logistics, or perhaps the breathtaking scenery that makes it hard to resist? Do the amenities, park features, or the surrounding attractions play a role? Or is there something about the nostalgia of returning to a cherished place year after year that makes it feel like a home away from home?
Tell us what makes a campground or RV park special enough to return to and how it fits into your travel lifestyle. We’re looking forward to reading your comments. Thank you!

Not to stay long, just overnight stops. We have one when we go north, one when we go east.
One even has a free night after so many stops. These stops are while on our way somewhere else.
We stay at the same campground yearly for the winter in California by the Colorado river.
Know the people and neighbors
Mgmt is great and friendly
Rest of year we travel.
We own a lot in a motorcoach resort in western NC in the mountains. We return every summer.
In the winter, we have several RV parks that we love and return to every year.
We stay at Pismo Coast Village about once a month. We love it so much that we bought a share, so we are part owners of the campground.
Yes we do repeat, but some further explanation: Snowbirds, house in the north, RV park in the south and many year-round friends we have met at the RV park. We use the same route and stops for the migration. But both our north and south seasonal locations are kick-off points to explore new places. So we do also see a number of new locations every year.
Since I was a child we have gone to Stone mountain Ga outside of Atlanta. It’s centrally located to my family in Ohio, Fla,, and NC. There are usually 4 generations now, 30-40 of us and we all have RVs so we share cooking duties. Always a highlight of our year. Many have never experienced a thanksgiving other than Stone Mt
Cumberland Mountain State Park in Tennessee. I have camped here since childhood. Quiet, peaceful, well-maintained, always has great hosts and rangers. We camp here 3 or 4 times each year.
I stayed at the same one for 28 years in a row. King Phillips Campground in lake George NY.
This was for the Americade motorcycle rally. For the first 25 years, it was on my motorcycle pulling a small pop-up trailer. Last 3 years with my toy hauler.
There are a lot of things to see in this country. Why see the same thing over and over. Boring.
We do our annual “shake down” trip at a USFS campground that’s only about 20 miles from home. Even if it were further, we’d go there. Many years we also go there near our anniversary for the final trip of the year.
Same here, Deborah. We take a “shake down” trip to a local state park about 20 minutes from home. If everything tests out, we’re good to go for the rest of the season.
We live in South Dakota but my wife grew up in Tennessee and has children and many relative there. We spend the month of August there every year. We spend two of the weeks in a State campground called Davy Crockett birthplace Campground. It’s where he was born. It’s on the Nolachucky River which flooded during the Hurricane. I doubt that it will ever reopen. As everything was washed away.
So sad to see the devastation.
Since we own our rv resort lot, we spend our summers there every year….you just can’t beat the summer weather on the Oregon coast. Therefore, our trips to and from the resort is always the same route, we stay at the same rv parks along the way. We’ve been doing this for 16 years now, and the owners know us by name and always provide us with the rv spot of our choice.
Usually we are traveling around the country to new areas we want to explore. But, we do stay one or maybe two of the summer holiday weekends at a county park about 30 miles from home. Our oldest daughter & her family setup as well and it gives us an opportunity to camp together.
Been going to the same COE park on a river in Montana for 30 years. This year they posted that they are going to a reservation system through Recreation.gov. So that ends that…..
You just have to learn to manipulate Recreation.gov. Start as soon as the dates you want are available, and practice before then.
Yes! Since we have a B van parked in our driveway, prepacked, we can just hop in at a moments notice and drive up or down the coast for a few hours to take a short break at one of our favorite campgrounds. It’s a good option to get away from the heat and spend some time at the beach. All state parks, always space available during the week. Life is good!
Memorial Weekend we kick off with a group camping trip. Then we all do our thing and end up the season with a Fall Group camping trip. We been doing this for over 40 years.
We have a home on a lake in WA that we spend the 6 months of summer at, but take many side trips in our motorhome during those 6 months. During the winter 6 months, we have a waterfront rv site in AZ on the Colorado River that we stay at, but we take many side trips during those 6 months also. We like having a home base north and south, but we like the changing views that we get on each side trip.
From Texas each summer we head north for cooler weather in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
On the way up depending on timing, we stay at half a dozen different places, but when we get up north we stay at the same places. Family closeness and low cost city campgrounds are the places of choice. The COE campgrounds are all on a reservation basis now and are booked years in advance, for weekender’s only, and empty as graveyards during the weekdays. So COE’s used to be our places to be, but unattainable know.
It’s for the community – we volunteer for various local activities along with many of our fellow “campers” and enjoy the local scene. The weather is pretty great also.
One of our adult children and six of our seven grand kids live, or have home base while away at college, in southwest Missouri. We would normally stay at different campgrounds in the Branson area for our visits. When Covid struck, it became more difficult to get reservations, especially on short notice. We purchased a membership at a large and popular “ownership” camping club in Branson and have come to love it. We can “always” get a campsite now without a reservation and have come to love the amenties and commaradrie of the place. We can have family gatherings at the fifth wheel or reserve the club house and enjoy all the indoor and outdoor pools and activities.
Thank you, RV Travel! Most years we visit the same campground outside DC, which also is near where we lived for 25+ years, two times, spring and fall. We stay for at least two Sundays to attend our old church. Have a great weekend and safe travels! 🙂
I said yes to multiple because we always try to spend a week at Cave Creek in the spring (Spring training) and a week at Zion in early November. Besides that, we love to go to new places.
Military campground where my son, dil and grands live in the summer. I help watch the kids while they run their restaurant/bar.
We go to Daytona 500 & Indy 500, from California. We have are set, for the most part, RV parks on way out as we are somewhat date driven by the races and DAytona race is in February so we leave in January….winter time. Other than a stop to visit son & family in Texas we head straight there. We improvise on the way home trying to visit new places. This is a recent way of travel. Once upon a time we knew where what we wanted to see and vaguely how we wanted to get there. So wandered. We are older and close to hanging it up, so we try to keep it simple.
I answered not every year, it really depends. We try to spend a few days at each Rim of Grand Canyon annually, usually in the park CGs. We also have a handy KOA for to.from that we usually use. We also visit some of the same CGs in CO, UT, & AZ for various areas we continue to explore.
We boondock for the deer hunt, and go to the same site every year. It’s up in the mountains and convenient for the places we hunt. It’s sole amenity is that it’s flat and has almost no internet service.
We go to the same music festival grounds 2-5 x / year depending on the offerings since 2013. Nearby favorite state parks get to see us every couple years and we are still definitely in exploration mode with many new ones every year
2 to 4 weeks every year … Meeks Bay, Tahoe-Tenting & Fishing 60s thru 80s … Zephyr Cove, Tahoe-RVing & Boating 90s to present.
