Do you keep some personal belongings in a rented storage locker?

Do you rent a storage locker to hold your personal belongings—whether you just have too much “stuff” or you’re on the road full-time with your RV and believe there’s a chance you’ll return to a traditional home one day and then have room for all that miscellany?

Many full-timers we’ve talked with through the years have said that they rented a storage locker for what they considered their important belongings. But many then said, “I should have just got rid of everything right away and not wasted money so long on storage fees.”

Others, we assume, in fact do return to a sticks-and-bricks home and are happy to have all those family belongings back again.

But even people who live in a traditional home often have too many possessions. So they rent a storage locker to have a place to keep some of their belongings without overflowing their home.

Not anymore. After 5 years of full-time RVing we finally got rid of our last storage locker last month.

Interestingly, to me anyway, I cleaned out the storage locker after 8 plus years just last week. So yes and no to your poll.

No, we have a nice 36’x68′ pole barn which is 1/4 full of the kid’s stuff (JUNK). the rest is a heated workshop garage and the Motor Home goes into the cold side with the tractors.

If you need to rent a storage space, you have too much junk.

We decided a long time ago if it needed to go into storage we could do without it, if it was something of value we just let someone else have it.

Not rented, but… we leave a TT on a long-stay RV park year-round and use it seasonally. Unlike many RV parks, sheds are allowed. We installed a smaller shed and use it to store all the outdoor gear when we are not ‘in residence’.

We did when we were full-timing for those 8 years. Now we have a small sticks ‘n bricks to keep it all in! 😉

I built a 14 X24 garage to keep my Chev. El Camino and winter snowblowers etc. The space was quickly used up! So, I bought and built a 10 X 14′ metal shed which holds yard equip and misc. JUNK! Junk, I know for a fact, that if I throw it or give it away – I will be looking for it within weeks! Yaa right! This doesn’t even address my so called – I know I need it shop in the lower level (basement).

We are in the process of getting the house ready to list and removing “clutter” was our real estate agent’s number one suggest. After donating, recycling, and throwing out a ton of stuff, we still had some things that were mentally difficult to get rid of. After some time as fulltimers, I’m sure we’ll be back to empty it out.

I got tired of lugging all the Christmas decorations up and down the attic stairs every year. Renting a small storage locker was the smartest thing I’ve done in a long time!

Thank you for the question, RV Travel! No, nothing now. Decades ago DW was living in Virginia and I was living in Kentucky, for a while. Once that stopped and we were both in Virginia, we did rent a storage locker for about a year, until we bought a house. Everything not fitting into the house was discarded. Since then, no, nothing. Have a great day and safe travels!
