Do you have a dash camera on your RV or tow vehicle?

Dash cameras used to be a pretty high-tech gadget that only a few had. Now, they’re pretty common for drivers, including RVers. Hey, if something happens to you while you’re driving, you’ll be incredibly thankful that you had footage to look at.

Do you have a dash cam on either your RV or your tow vehicle? If you do, will you share which brand you have in the comments and whether you like (and recommend) it or not? It could be helpful for those looking to get one.

As always, Amazon has a huge selection and it looks like this one is the highest-rated.

Dash camera on all vehicles. 2 are tied to GPS for adding accurate time and location data.
Law enforcement needs a warrant to access your data if you are unwilling to share it.

Sure they need a warrant, but they can also seize it and then obtain a warrant to view the contents.

Why WOULDN’T you want to share it with law enforcement?!?!

Although 46% answered “yes”, I have yet to see one on tow vehicles or motorized one’s when strolling through CG’s. I said no but will be installing one on TV. With road rage these days, best to have actual proof on your side.

I answered No, but I do have one that I’ve yet to install. One of these days I will, hopefully not too late!

I am looking for a new one as my old one died. I am also looking to install one in my Toad, just can’t find one like my old Lukas since they quit selling in the USA. I liked the speed displaying while in motion.

Yes times three. Motorhome is gps and front only. Toad is dual, front and rear, no gps. Also installed a dual on my motorcycle.

We have an older model Garmin GPS that is moved from RV to car as needed for trips. Works great; able to relive our recent mountain trip in major snow storm, white knuckle driving!

I have one for my truck. It records time of day, speed and gps coordinates and direction of travel.

We have 2 – one on the windshield of out ClassA and the other on the rear window of my toad. If we get hit from behind, I want a record of what happened front & back

Yes on both. Garmin for both of them.

Yes and I mentioned having a dash cam recording to the officer that took an accident report (and it was no accident) when a reckless driver “swung” his U-haul trailer into my right front bumper. It caught not only the moment when my truck was struck by the U-haul but the earlier event when that same driver tried and missed hitting the left side. I wrote that all up in a separate police report and sent that report plus offered to provide a copy to the offending driver’s insurance company. Once the insurance company discovered I had the recording, they immediately agreed to pay 100% for damages.

We have a MANGOAL built in OEM style “dash cam” for our F150 that is installed “below” the rear-view mirror. We also have a Furion system for the travel trailer. The MANGOAL OEM style is powered by the truck system and overwrites when the storage disk is full. No fuss, no muss. The Furion is of course a dash system powered by the 12V “power-point and is only used when pulling the trailer. Both are great. IF anyone wants an OEM style (easy to install) I would recommend getting a front and rear camera. We only got the front view.

Yes I have one I move between the daily driver and motorhome when on a trip. Looking to add one to the toad, especially for the rear recording of the toad. Lots of positive stories out there on how a dash cam saved them with insurance etc.

We have had one in all our various vehicles since 2016. Originally bought one for our first camper trip to Mexico. Our current ones are Rove brand. So far we haven’t needed the footage as evidence for anything, and are hoping we never have to, but we are prepared for that eventuality. We record everything (video, time, location and speed) except for audio inside the vehicle.

I said no but having one in today’s society it’s a necessity

While pulling our 5th wheel home from the 4th of July festivities last year we were T boned by a class c motorhome, totaling all 3 rigs. Fortunately the dash cam in our truck captured everything. Since we didn’t have to worry about fault, we were able to focus on compensation for our property instead. We don’t travel without one.

I have one and encourage everyone to pull the card once in a while to check it.

I have a Rove R3-4K. Unfortunately I got it after being judged being at fault for a parking lot minor accident. It has gps, speed, three camera views and locks files when it detects a crash. If I’d had it it would’ve showed that the other driver was at fault or at least equally at fault. Talk about closing the barn door after the horse has escaped. 😥

I have a Van-True in my Toad and my RV. I had occasion to need a video of a minor collision from my Toad and tried to use the Van-true app, without success. Then I put the chip into my laptop to try to read it but it couldn’t, offering the MacBook’s “repair”. Once repaired the laptop isn’t recognize the chip and neither did the DashCam. Very frustrating. My insurance agent suggested taking a video of the video but that was too late. Still, the basic idea is worth having after this very expensive lesson.

We are on our second dash camera. I have a 128 gigabyte memory card in our Garmin dash camera. It is usually attached to the inside of our RV windshield just above the dash. Once in a while I attach it to the inside of one of our cars. Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂

I’d get one if they didn’t have those ugly wires and cables. Don’t they make any with an internal power pack, etc.?

I had my uthink1000 professionally installed. It was a very reasonable price for installation. I have front and rear on our truck. I love the think because it records if there is motion or “bump” to vehicle when parked. Be sure to review those often. I didn’t and didn’t get vehicle who hit my truck in the rear when park in BFE parking lot area.

One day a Big Horned sheep jumped out right in front of me. Good thing it kept going and we didn’t meet up.
With the dash cam I’ve been able to share it and with the sound you can hear my tires screaming.

Wow! Scary, but I’m glad it got out of the way in time. You’re sure that wasn’t you screaming on your dash cam?😉 Have a good night, David. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

I have a dash cam in every vehicle I own. I have a video of a fifth wheel I was following that blew a tire with the tire tread flying backwards and hitting my windshield. Didn’t break it but I had to use 0000 steel wool to clean the rubber skid mark off. The funniest one was when a guy jump the red light in front of us when we had a turn arrow. He didn’t notice the cruiser two cars behind him. We laughed hard when the cruiser lit um up.
