Do you have a nickname? Is it a shorter version of your real, full name or is it something completely different? Is this a nickname that most of your friends or family call you?
If you don’t have a nickname, we’re assuming that the majority of your friends and family call you by your real, full name?
After you respond, please leave a comment with your nickname. We’d love to hear it… as long as it’s not too embarrassing for you!
And remember, we’re asking about most of your friends and family here. Not just one or two people, so keep that in mind when you answer. Thanks!
If you enjoyed this RVtravel.com reader poll, keep in mind that we have polled our readers at least 2,000 times through the years. It’s fascinating to see how they have responded, sometimes very surprisingly. You’ll find an archive of the polls here. So what are you waiting for? Check ’em out.

Name is Thomas. It’s ALWAYS shortened to Tom. But my roadname is Notch.
Top notch nickname.
My name is John, but my mother always called me Johnny, and so the family always called me Johnny too, but only close family.
Nick name came about when I was in college so, college friends use that. Everyone else use my given name.
Shorten to Tom. Only one good friend ever called me Thomas. Unfortunately, he has passed over the rainbow bridge.
Back home in Manitoba 99% nickname, “Whitey”. As a kid I was pale as a ghost. Currently in Toronto for 35 years it is a variation of my first name.
Charles shortened to Chuck for most all of family. In 9th grade science class, while talking when I should have been listening, the teacher shouted, “hey Buckwheat, shut up”, 50+ years later my closest friends still call me that! Charlie when I moved to Colorado.
But as the saying goes “call me anything, but late for supper”!!
Because being the 3rd my father they called Sonny and my nick name is Skip. Only the elder used the given name was what was the point.
The only time I have been called by a nickname was while I was employed. Since then I am only called by my first name.
Because my name is Martha Stewart, people love calling me by my full name
Thomas is my “official” name, but Tommy is what everyone calls me – and that’s the way I want it.
My name is Robert but like many “millions” of other men I’m called BOB!!
As a child I went by the nickname of Len, short for Leonard, because my grandfather’s name was George. The day I graduated from high school I started using my given name of George. My wife calls me George, my sister calls me Len.
Nothing like being called an array of “colorful” names…wont mention them here though.
Different groups have different names for me, most folks know me as “Big foot” but others know me at “don, the cookie baker”.
I put “real” for me, but my husband goes by “Jack” but his name is “John”. I find that to be pretty common, but I’ve often wondered why and how it got started? It’s not any shorter, if it’s to help differentiate between other’s in the family, why not use initials? Anyone know?
I was a policeman for 35 years …. I was called a lot of colorful names.
My name is Diane, but my daddy, and only he, called me “Lucy.” It’s because I loved to watch “I Love Lucy” when I was little. It made me feel special to have a nickname that only Daddy used.
My name is Kelley, but many people (even co-workers) call me Kel-Bel or Kellogg. My nieces and nephews that had trouble pronouncing my name called me Kelwey.
Common short form of my real name.
To differentiate between Aunt Pats on both sides of the family for nieces, I became Aunt PJ although somehow it became PGee. With 4 Pats in my golf league when I joined, I suggested that I was PJ and most call me that. Everywhere else I’m Pat and Patty. Guess I should have marked nickname since I’m really Patricia!
Haha! My real name is a nickname! For years I carried a copy of my birth certificate because potential employers and businesses would insist that I just didn’t like my real name.
My name is actually Randall, but everybody usually calls me Randy. Pretty common practice with my actual first name. We had 6 Randy’s in elementary school. After I played “Little Jake” in the musical “Annie Get Your Gun” at the St. Louis Municipal Opera when I was 9 years old, my friends started calling me “Jake.”
Questions to Dave
I submitted a responds to ask Dave and when I sent it it tells me there is a error with word press or something like that,
Bill…Billy or Willie by an older brother sometimes, but never William, unless I’m at the doctor’s office
Most people do not know my real name. I knew my niece’s future husband for years before they were married. At one family gathering someone called me by my real name and he asked, “Who is that?” Mom called us boys by our initials, Dad was more formal. If ever Mom called us by our all three names, we knew we were in DEEP trouble. I think she wanted God to know precisely who she was calling upon. LOL
Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 My generation? Real name. Daddy’s generation? About half called by real name and half by nickname. When I called to invite people to Daddy’s 90th-birthday party, I called the people by the name I knew them. Thereby many who did not know me still knew the call was legitimate because calling them by that particular name implied as much. Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂
I went by several nicknames family called me when young, sis, red, n carrot top mostly (yes, I was definately red headed, now turned blond). My mother had a nickname for me only she used (I didn’t like it then n still don’t). Friends always called me by my name. I had a friend named Robert, that was always called Jack. He didn’t know why either.
