Think back to Thanksgivings from years past. Maybe you picture a packed table, a favorite side dish, or that one relative who always tells the same story. But what about this year? Will you spend Thanksgiving with friends or with family?
For many of you, Thanksgiving is all about gathering with family—whether that means a big traditional meal, a small cozy dinner, or something in between. Maybe you’re hosting, maybe you’re traveling, or maybe you’re rolling your RV into a driveway you’ve pulled into a hundred times before. Sometimes these traditions can be comforting anchors in a busy world.
Many people, maybe you, celebrate with friends, either by choice or circumstance. “Friendsgiving” has grown into its own tradition, and for RVers, it’s especially common.
When you’re on the road, your friends often become your chosen family—the people you camp beside, swap stories with, and share meals around the picnic table. There’s something special about carving a turkey with the folks who crossed your path by chance.
Of course, some years look different. Maybe you’re spending Thanksgiving at a campground where potlucks bring strangers together. Maybe you’re keeping it simple and quiet this time. Or maybe you’re combining both worlds—family one day, friends the next, because who says Thanksgiving can’t stretch across a long weekend? (That’s the best kind of Thanksgiving, we think.)
So what about you? Will you be spending it with friends, family, or a little of both? Go ahead and vote, and if you have a holiday tradition on the road, we’d love to hear about it. Thanks!

Just immediate family this year. I’m doing the cooking so I’ve start with the pies. This will probably be the last year I will do such a large task but it will be fun.
Just me and the wife, major Lake Effect event expected so planned dinner will be postponed to Saturday.
Hoping for a friendly waitress wherever we eat. Getting the whole fam damily together for holidays is nearly impossible, so we just tell everyone to let us know if they want to celebrate.
Two of our three children and their children will join us. Gathered with the entire family (brother & sisters, all three of our kids with all three grandkids + 40 of our local friends) when our children helped us celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary on the 22nd.
All our families are 400-1000+ miles away, except my SiL who is next door. Due to winning a big turkey (at Wednesday Bingo), already thawed, we had our Thanksgiving with her last Friday. We’ll do something different, but together this Thursday.
Yes but! We will celebrate on Saturday as my daughters in-laws turn to have them for Thursday. Our son doesn’t mind waiting so we all will be together from Friday – Sunday!
Maybe with daughter and her husband. Family has shrunk.
You left out the option if Wife..friends..family Pets, are no longer with (me)..Still Thankful I’m still kicking and so are “Lucy” (Winnie) and “Ninja” (Samurai-Toad)..And planning our next road trip!…Ya, I know, only so much space.
Happy Turkey-Day All!
As my 3 immediate family members have now left these earthly bounds, I will spend Thanksgiving with my granddaughter, husband and their family of 4 kids – 4-12. She will prepare most of the fixings and he will do the turkey at my home and we will eat and nap here also – after starting the dishwasher and cleanup! They are my anchor and so I am so blessed to have them close by – especially this time of year!
