Does your RV—whether it’s a motorhome, fifth wheel, travel trailer, pop-up, van, or another type—have a spare tire? If it didn’t come with one, did you purchase a spare to carry with you on your travels?
Some RVs come equipped with a spare tire, while others don’t, and it can be easy to overlook this critical piece of gear—until you need it.
A flat tire can turn a relaxing road trip into a stressful situation, especially if you’re miles from the nearest service center or stuck on the side of a busy highway. Without a spare, you could be waiting for hours (or longer) for roadside assistance, assuming you even have cell service to call for help.
Even if you have a spare tire, it’s just as important to make sure it’s properly inflated and in good condition before each trip. Tires degrade over time, even if they’re not being used, and an old or underinflated spare won’t do you much good in an emergency.
Additionally, if your RV didn’t come with a spare, finding a storage solution for one can be tricky but well worth the effort. Whether mounted on the rear, stowed underneath, or carried in a storage compartment, having a spare tire on hand could save you time, money, and a whole lot of frustration.
So, do you carry a spare tire with your RV? Let us know in the poll below—thanks!

Yes – in a stupid place (under the hitch) so that it gets the sun and can’t be covered up!
No- but since my front and rear axle and tag axle aren’t the same size tires it would require having 2 different spares.
This survey needs to differentiate the term RV. Motorhomes and travel trailers are both RV’s, and most, if not all travel trailers come with a spare.
Unrelated, but I don’t understand why TT’s do not come with a proper jack, even as an option.
No, I don’t and I wouldn’t be able to even lift the motorhome off the ground with a jack as it is a diesel pusher. I carry Good Sam roadside for that reason and others.
And I couldn’t lift the tire either.
Yup…a credit card, a cellphone and a roadside service plan is a great spare tire.
Anything and everything I tow or drive has at least one spare. “Don’t leave home without it”
Thank you for the question, RV Travel. Our RV has a spare tire only when we go to Alaska. It is unmounted, covered by a tire cover, and is strapped to the roof of our towed vehicle. Our tire size is 305 70R 22.5. My impression is that each unmounted tire is quite heavy. Have a great day and safe travels!
Few coaches come with a spare. When buying new tires, we save the best tire from the previous set and carry it as a spare. While old, it might do in a pinch until we can get to a place that carries the size tire we require. So far, we’ve never needed to use it, though.
While not having a spare might be an issue if a tire failed, hauling around something that takes up that much space, and weighs so much wouldn’t gain us much since it’s too big & heavy for most people to handle. If we get a failure, we’ll just have to deal with the situation then.
