Results for the RV Industry Association’s September 2024 survey of manufacturers showed that RV manufacturers shipped 24,595 units to dealers, a decrease of 4% compared to the 24,700 units shipped in September 2023.
“Overall RV shipments are steady for the month of September, but remain on track for modest increases in 2024 over 2023,” said RV Industry Association President and CEO Craig Kirby in a news release.
Towable RVs, the traditionally less expensive conventional travel trailers, ended the month up 4.2% from last September with 22,279 shipments. Motorhomes, among the most expensive recreational vehicles, finished the month down 30.1% compared to the same month last year with only 2,316 units shipped.
To date, all RV shipments are up 7.7% compared to the same period last year with 256,412 headed to dealers through September.
Park Model RVs finished September down 12.0% compared to the same month last year, with 294 wholesale shipments.
Charts below show 2023/2024 month-over-month total wholesale RV and Park Model shipments.

I’m surprised it took so long. I have a 2022 Spirit and it’s the worst built unit I’ve ever owned. And, their customer service and backing of the product is a joke.
Looking at these numbers I’m curious – park model sales are down appreciably but I wonder if that’s because things like this which are categorized as travel trailers rather than park models and, IMO, really are a home run. I know a few dealers who just can’t keep these in stock and the industry showed a lot of examples of this type of rig.
For some time now I’ve said motorized RVs don’t make sense so, perhaps, others are coming to the same conclusion.
I think it comes down to how you use your RV regarding motorized or towable. If you’re going to live in a trailer park, I agree with you Tony, motorized makes zero sense.
For every park model sold, there needs to be a place to park it and I don’t sense there’s as many sites being created as there are RV’s produced so sales will indeed be flattening.
A lot of park models are being sold to people to use as casitas, mother-in-law units, a place for a grown child to live or rental income on people’s property. They aren’t permanent so not taxed as a sticks and bricks structure would be.
Thank you, RV Travel! Well, glad I am not an RV manufacturer/assembler. Have a great day and safe travels!
