I’m about to replace my Solid Steps with the old-style type, because I’m fed up with how inconvenient they are in the real world. Every time I stop anywhere, I have to adjust the legs. I can’t climb in without extending the legs. If I stop for lunch (or for any other reason) by a curb, the legs don’t go short enough, so I can’t close the trailer door because the mechanism is in the way. Then, they dump dirt into my trailer when I put them up unless I brush everything off every time.

These stabilizers may help if I ever need them for my new/old style steps.

We just bought a fifth wheel with a set of step stabilizers similar to these. These are nice because they deploy and adjust easily. Our stabilizers (an older style?) use a threaded adjustment. They are quite sturdy, better than the makeshift stabilizers I have utilized on the past trailer

These type of steps are inherently unstable, loose, and will move around. I use a simple scissor jack under my bottom step. I don’t snug it up, but leave about a 1/2″ between the bottom of the step and the jack….this is incase the coach/s levelers tend to settle and might bend the step’s mechanisms. Works for me.

Ron, I use the same but I snug mine as I hate wobbly steps.

I bought a cheap 1 ton $20 scissor jack from Amazon and hand tighten it under the rear lip of the lower step and it works flawlessly. My steps have enough free play that my coach would need to sink significantly before my step braces yield. A scissor jack is adjustable to any variable unlike the “pin it to the closest fit” legs. Plus it can do much more than just stabilize steps…..

This has adjustable extensions to adapt to different heights and uneven surfaces.

I bought the screw jack type of support. I have a Kwikee electric step. The problem is not with the step – it is with the metal floor it is attached to under the inside entry. The former owner was apparently heavy and bent the step braces. I removed the step and straightened that all out. Then I discovered a major problem with cracks in the metal floor. I cut a 1″ or 1.5″ hole in the inside step to see what was going on. Metal fatigue had ripped cracks in the metal mounting floor. Fix, (?) I inserted steel washers and bolts to secure the floor. So far so good – going on about 8 years. Stabilizer helps the flexing/ fatigue problem.

Thank you, Dustin! 🙂 I do think this might be an enhancement to our RV. Unfortunately, DW disagreed. 🙁 Thanks again, have a great week, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
