This weekend: Visit Walmart for free wellness checks and low-cost immunizations

Enjoying the RV lifestyle is best done with your health as good as you can get it. Being sick just doesn’t make for a happy RV outing. Taking care of your health before you get sick is the best approach. And one of many RVers’ big “stop along the way” sites can help with that. This Saturday, January 11, Walmarts across the country are giving away free wellness checks, and offering immunizations at what they declare is an affordable cost.

Free wellness checks—the details

The first Walmart Wellness Day of 2025 is Saturday, January 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time. What kind of health screenings can you get for free? Here’s the list: glucose, cholesterol, body mass index, and blood pressure. And as to those “affordable immunizations”? Flu, COVID-19, HPV, mumps, and measles are all on the “jab list.”

Close to 4,600 pharmacies nationwide are offering these, so there should be a “Wally” close to wherever your travels take you. Select stores will also feature vision screenings, in-store giveaways, and demonstrations of wellness products.

“A new year brings opportunities for a fresh start, and we want to support people on their health journeys,” said Kevin Host, senior vice president of pharmacy at Walmart. “Our Wellness Day events allow customers and patients to check in on their health in an affordable and convenient way while also encouraging meaningful connections with our highly skilled pharmacy teams.”

Wellness Day also offers a chance for families to chat with pharmacists about topics like maintaining a healthy lifestyle, medications, recommended vaccinations, and more, including health journeys for women currently or hoping to become pregnant. Pharmacists can discuss nutrition recommendations during pregnancy and beyond, like the importance of folic acid and its impact on a growing baby’s development.

Some Walmarts can test and treat for troublesome health conditions

In addition to free wellness checks, Walmart pharmacies in 21 states can also provide high-quality testing and same-day treatment for strep, flu, or COVID-19.

Additionally, Walmart now carries combined COVID-19 and Flu A/B home tests, available over the counter. These tests can detect both COVID-19 and Flu A/B, allowing families to understand when it’s more important to seek further care.

Since 2014, Walmart pharmacies have hosted Wellness Days across the country, which has contributed to more than 5 million free health screenings for customers.

More than 4,000 Walmart stores are in areas that are experiencing a shortage of medical providers, meaning that Walmart is often the first stop for health care in rural and underserved communities. To find a free event in your neighborhood, click here.

Somehow, Walmart is not the first name that pops up in my mind for dealing with health issues.

It may not be for you but for some, the only access they may have to medical monitoring/wellness checks, might be at a Walmart.
