1.2 million Ram pickup trucks recalled

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2019, 2021-2024 Ram 1500 vehicles. Due to a software malfunction, the anti-lock brake system (ABS) control module may disable the electronic stability control system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126, “Electronic Stability Control Systems.”

Driving with a disabled electronic stability control system can increase the risk of a crash which can lead to injury or even death.

As many as 1,227,808 vehicles may be affected by the safety recall, which was issued Sept. 5.

The suspect period began on October 31, 2017, when the first vehicle was produced, and ended on February 14, 2024, when the updated ABS module software was released. Vehicle production and engineering change records were used to determine the suspect period.

Remedy

Dealers will update the ABS control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 3, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC’s number for this recall is 85B.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 Unfortunate. 🙁 I wonder why this didn’t show up when the engineering took place? May have switched suppliers and paid too little attention to the specifications of the “new” part(s). Whatever it was, must have been too little oversight. 🙁 Guess we can guess which module is cheaper, easier to replace between the ABS and the stability control system, huh? 🤔😯 😉 Thanks again, have a great week, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂

I’ll bet there are at least a few Chinese components involved.

Also some 2500s had to bully a local dealer into working me in to get the fix while towing my 26’TT after being told I shouldn’t even be driving it.. I was notified by Carfax…still waiting for the official notification from Ram.
