BLM increases fire restrictions in NW Oregon

The BLM has hiked fire restrictions in the Pacific Northwest. On Monday, July 8, fire restrictions went into effect for all Bureau of Land Management public lands throughout the Northwest Oregon District.

The BLM wants all visitors to be aware of active restrictions and closures as warmer, drier weather begins to set in around the Pacific Northwest.

Some Oregon/Washington restrictions were already in place

These fire restrictions help reduce the risk of human-caused fires. The BLM Oregon/Washington statewide Fire Restrictions went into effect May 24th. Those restrictions prohibit fireworks, exploding targets or metallic targets, steel component ammunition (core or jacket), tracer or incendiary devices, and sky lanterns.

BLM hikes fire restrictions more in NW Oregon

To further reduce wildfire risk, these other restrictions apply:

NO:

  • Fires and campfires except in designed areas
  • Smoking in vegetated areas
  • Vehicle use in unmanaged vegetated areas
  • Operating a chainsaw, welding or using a torch
  • Using an internal combustion engine without a spark arrestor.

The tighter regulations started at 12:01 a.m. PDT on July 8, 2024. They remain in effect until canceled.

Big fines, jail time for violators

Violators may be fined up to $100,000 and/or imprisoned for up to 12 months. In addition, those found responsible for starting wildland fires on federal lands can be billed for the cost of fire suppression.

It’s really dry along the whole entire west coast right now. And probably most of the western U.S. as well.

Thanks, Bill! 🙂 I hope that you get rain soon. 🙂 We are pretty typical here, for summer. Very few of the cracks in the ground are more than 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch wide, and the weeds are flourishing. 😉 Have a great day and weekend, safe travels, and safe stays.

You need to move to East Tennessee, Bill. We can give you mid to high 90s with humidity at least 60%. 😉
