Oregon’s Crater Lake National Park will temporarily open the North Entrance Road for two-way travel beginning 7 a.m. Saturday, August 31, through Monday, September 2, to accommodate visitors over what is expected to be a busy Labor Day weekend. The entrance has been closed to allow for maintenance work due to fire damage.
Long lines and waits of up to 2 hours should be expected throughout the holiday weekend at both park entrance stations. The South Entrance will be especially busy today, August 30, as it will be the only way to enter the park in a vehicle.
Arriving before 10 a.m. or after 3 p.m. may reduce wait times. If the park is not your destination, please avoid Highway 62 and take an alternative route.
Please be advised that fire operations may necessitate temporary closures or delays along the North Entrance Road at any time.
Beginning at 6 a.m., Tuesday, September 3, and continuing until further notice, the North Entrance will again be closed to all traffic due to hazard reduction work due to the Middle Fork Fire. During this time, access to the park will be limited to the South Entrance.
Park officials recommend checking the latest conditions and road status before a visit to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. Updates are available on the park website at www.nps.gov/crla and on Oregon Tripcheck at www.tripcheck.com.
