Family throws campground fairytale birthday party; too cute for complaints

People complain a lot about loud parties and loud music in the campground, but this birthday party was a breath of fresh air filled with fairy dust. Our campground neighbor had set up a large mirror with dress-up clothes, a food tent, another with fairy wing makings, and a tent to create fairy gardens. I just had to go over and talk with them.

Makings of a perfect campground birthday party

It had all the makings of a great birthday party. The site was spacious with no neighbors and lots of grass. Pandora just turned 5 and Skylar, her mom, said this was their favorite campground and they come at least once a year for a large family camp gathering. Skylar and Pandora’s grandma, Melanie, threw the best fairy party ever!

They made it look easy

All the tents and canopies were set up the day before. Pandora and her mom camped there that night. All of the supplies—dress-up clothes, a mirror, a fairy garden, fairy wings, and food trays (sans food)—were set up early in the day. Each tent was spaced far enough apart to not get congested when 20 5-year-olds would be converging on the campsite.

Non-electric site

And it was even a non-electric campsite! A generator powered up just long enough to blow up balloons. Coolers held the food.

Party hearty!

The kids arrived and had a great time. They were surprisingly quiet. I think the key was having lots of activities and lots of order. A few parents stayed to help and a few left. The overwhelming hit seemed to be the dress-up area and the balloons. Although, a few of the balloons did manage to escape to the trees.

All in all, it was a great way to have a kid’s birthday party, and I believe even I could manage to do one, too.

Despite folks complaining each week in my Campground Crowding column about loud music, unruly children, and loud generators, there was nothing to complain about here. This truly was a fairytale campground birthday party, and the campground celebrated along with them.

Happy birthday, Pandora!
