CamperDEK: New RV upgrade that brings your patio along for the ride

One of the biggest perks of RV camping is enjoying the outdoors. Whether you’re sipping coffee in the morning, grilling dinner, or simply relaxing after a day of exploring, most RVers spend as much time outside as they do inside.

That’s exactly the idea behind CamperDEK. This innovative new product transforms the unused space beneath many travel trailers and fifth wheels into a sturdy outdoor deck.

A little history

Created by longtime friends and camping enthusiasts Brian, a welder and product designer, and Mark, a GM mechanic, CamperDEK grew from a simple “What if?” conversation back in 2011.

The friends developed a successful prototype in 2019 and refined a production model in 2022. Positive feedback from fellow campers encouraged the pair to officially launch CamperDEK LLC earlier this year.

The company now builds and installs its products in St. Germain, Wisconsin. CamperDEK’s focus is on quality craftsmanship and practical design.

Unlike portable patio systems that require unloading, assembly, and storage space inside your RV, CamperDEK stays mounted beneath the trailer.

Once you arrive at your campsite, the deck slides out smoothly via polyurethane rollers. This creates a comfortable outdoor platform in just a few minutes.

When it’s time to hit the road again, stainless steel spring latches lock the deck securely into its travel position.

Installation and features

The CamperDEK system is designed to fit most travel trailers and fifth wheels by replacing an entry step beneath the RV door. Factory installation typically takes four hours or longer, depending on the configuration of the trailer’s undercarriage. Steel quick clamps attach the deck to the RV frame, while custom mounting hangers are available when needed.

One feature many RVers will appreciate is the deck’s versatility. It can be partially extended and used as a larger entry step for quick stops without deploying the support jacks. For full use, the deck is stabilized with two heavy-duty screw jacks rated at 1,000 pounds each. The 10-foot model also includes an additional swing-down support jack for extra stability.

Will it fit my rig? And what’s the cost?

CamperDEK is available in four sizes to accommodate different RV lengths and floor plans. Here are the available sizes with prices:

  • 4-foot deck weighs 253 lbs.—$4,560
  • 6-foot deck weighs 310 lbs.—$4,990
  • 8-foot deck weighs 348 lbs.—$5,520
  • 10-foot deck weighs approximately 419 lbs.—$5,950.

Durability and upgrades

Durability is a major focus throughout CamperDEK’s design. Stainless steel hardware helps resist corrosion. The extruded outer rails provide attachment points for folding steps and future accessories.

The company is also testing several optional upgrades to the deck system. These include add-ons like collapsible picnic tables, smartphone-controlled LED lighting, a 12-volt powered extension system, custom color-matched bedliner finishes, and folding safety railings.

Small, young company

CamperDEK is still a young company with limited production capacity. That means CamperDEK installations are currently performed only at its St. Germain, Wisconsin, facility. While that may limit convenience for some buyers, it also allows the company to ensure each installation is completed correctly and safely.

Considerations

Like any aftermarket modification, buyers should consider their trailer’s cargo carrying capacity, hitch weight, and overall weight ratings before adding several hundred pounds of equipment.

It’s also worth discussing any major modifications with the RV manufacturer if warranty coverage is still in effect. Organizations such as the RV Industry Association recommend staying within all published weight ratings and ensuring aftermarket accessories are professionally installed to maintain safe towing.

My take

For RVers who enjoy seasonal camping, extended stays, or entertaining at their campsite, the CamperDEK concept offers an interesting alternative to carrying portable deck systems or outdoor rugs. Having a permanent deck that stores neatly beneath the RV could simplify campsite setup while providing a cleaner, more stable outdoor living area.

One to watch

As production ramps up and more units find their way into campgrounds across North America, CamperDEK will be an interesting company to watch. Sometimes the best RV innovations aren’t the most complicated—they simply make camping a little easier and a lot more enjoyable.
