Friday saw fire rescuers respond to an unusual call-out. Someone crashed a Class A motorhome into a home in Fort Worth, Texas. If crashing a rig into a house wasn’t enough, the RV caught fire.
In the end, the RV driver was shuttled to a hospital with reported critical injuries after the RV crashed into the house.
Firefighters face multiple issues when RV crashes into house
When arriving on-scene, firefighters weren’t aware the driver was still in the rig. He’d been thrown from the driver seat and pinned in the wreckage.
Worsening the situation, the throttle was stuck, and the engine was revving high, “superheating” the vehicle, according to a fire department report.

While the fire crew pried open the passenger side of the rig to get a hose line in to cool the situation, others used extrication tools to access the driver side. They were able to haul the driver out and access the accelerator to bring the motorhome’s engine down to an acceptable level.

The homeowner said she instantly knew what the problem was when her house violently shuddered. She said she’d allowed the RVer to park his rig in her driveway. When she heard the loud bang, her mind went to the correct conclusion as to the cause.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! Hmm, … was the driver “impaired” in order to put the RV into drive rather than reverse? I am unable to concoct a satisfactory explanation for the outcome, given the facts here, without adding some sort of impairment of the driver. Have a great week and safe travels! 🙂
Hopefully no pets inside, doing someone a favor and then getting your house damaged?,
Another timely reminder about how quickly things can turn out badly! I hope the driver/owner is ok and can relate to what the cause of this was. They indicate a stuck throttle – however, that could have been jammed from impact debris. Fortunately no one in home was injured; also hope the xthr is warm and dry and everyone involved has insurance!
I knew an man who was parking his class-A next to his home. He accidentally pressed down on the accelerator pedal instead of the bake pedal. The tree came out OK but the RV needed some repair. That might have been the situation but could also have been a medical issue.
Trees always win!
Wow, driver thrown from driver’s seat. I hate it when seatbelts fail like that.
