This is one of the nicest campsites we have ever stayed at—and it is a KOA! We were visiting family in Indianapolis and I had made reservations at a local KOA. Driving in, I saw some sites with fireplaces, swings, a grill and tables. They just had to be the “super sites” I had declined when reserving. I had picked a “deluxe” only because the standard sites are those butt-to-nose sites that I truly hate.
We checked in at the office and I asked if any of those amazing sites were available for the two days. Yes! At $89 a night, I decided to splurge! My husband grumbled, but as we pulled into our new site, he quickly became a happy camper.
The Indianapolis KOA Holiday
This KOA is just west of Indianapolis in Greenfield, Indiana, and it was a short trip into the city, gas stations and grocery stores. There was even a brand-new Taco Bell a half mile or so away, which meant no cooking after a long day of travel.
We loved the swings, the unique fireplace, and the long concrete pull-through pad. We bought wood at the well-stocked store for an enjoyable evening outside. The pergola even had string lights that came on at dusk. The “super sites” were well-spaced for a KOA and had ample grass around them.

The splash pad and pool were not open yet, but the playground, petting area with horses and goats, and rock panning were. Glamping tents and cabins are available, too.

Alas, we were only there for two nights but would have liked to have stayed longer. It is definitely on the list to return to.

Nanci, we also stayed at the Indianapolis KOA during the Total Eclipse this year. Not only is the store well stocked, the entire staff are very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms and grounds were clean and well maintained. We will definitely stay there again!
Another KOA that gets my high recommendation, is the one in Wytheville, VA. We stayed there overnight during our trip to and from Florida. Easy access from I77.
The campground was clean and well laid out. Roads and sites are gravel, but well maintained and level.
There was a lot of work being done to the office and bathrooms. Notice, I did not say bath house. Six individual bathrooms at the office, and two others in other areas.
They have 20 overnight pull through sights next to the office.
There is a family fun center with a small snack shop, arcade games and a 6 lane bowling alley. The office and store are in the process of being made larger. Office is open from 8am to 8pm.
Isn’t Greenfield east of Indianapolis
Thank you, Nanci! 🙂 I am jealous of you being in the site enough to truly enjoy it. We overnight somewhere en-route to our destination and do little more than sleep. Or we are at our destination, which is typically to do something. So we spend our day(s) doing what we traveled there to do instead of luxuriating in the amenities of a well-appointed site. So, again, we typically do little more than sleep at our site. I suppose this is a difference bourne of your semi-full-timing relative to our part-timing. Well, in any case, it sounds as though you got full value from your site! Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂
Puts some walls on that gabezo and it’s just like home! Yuck.
