Forest River awning recall will stop the unraveling

Earlier this month we published a recall notice for Carefree awnings. Included in that notice were several RV brands, but apparently that wasn’t the end of the matter. Now we add a Forest River awning recall, adding to the not-so-carefree list.

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Coachmen Galleria, 2021-2023 Forest River Beyond, and 2021-2023 Coachmen Nova Class B motorhomes. The retractable awning may extend unintentionally during transit. An awning extending unintentionally during transit may become a distraction or road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. Forest River reports that 2,519 of its units could be affected.

Remedy

Dealers will install a wedge to support the internal components in the gearbox and replace the motor as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 5, 2024. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-825-6319. Forest River’s number for this recall is 225-1723.

Russ and Tiña went from childhood tent camping to RVing in the 1980s when the ground got too hard. They've been tutored in the ways of RVing (and RV repair) by a series of rigs, from truck campers, to a fifth-wheel, and several travel trailers. In addition to writing scores of articles on RVing topics, they've also taught college classes for folks new to RVing. They authored the book, RV Boondocking Basics.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! 🙂 They never end, do they? Rats! Safe travels! 🙂

I opine this is a Carefree issue (a terrible manufacturer in my opinion-personal experience) versus a Forest River issue (worst manufactured products out there according to my RV tech brother). Glad SOMEONE is stepping up!

I had the same issue with my 2017 Forest River 34QS. I tried to get Carefree & Forest River to fix it & they only had excuses no solutions. I finally just strapped the arms together (old school) using velcro straps & never had an issue since!
Thanks Russ & Tina for keeping us informed!
