Looking for a campground while exploring the bayou country? Louisiana has a new state campground at Cypremort Point State Park in St. Mary Parish. The park is parked on Vermillion Bay, at the end of State Route 319.
Visitors launch boats here, fish, and stroll a half-mile beach. Wildlife watcher? You may spot nutria, muskrat, alligator, or several bird species. Deer, black bear, rabbits, possum, and red fox are also denizens. It is one of the few spots along the Gulf coastline accessible by road. So, what more could you ask for, but a new 22-site campground?
Rates are attractive
The 22 “premium” sites have full-hookups. More adventurous people can explore five “unimproved” sites, and non-RV campers can rent cabins on site. Hookup site rates seem relatively reasonable, starting at $30 a night Sunday through Thursday during peak season, topping out at $33 a night on weekends. On-the-cheap, unimproved sites are $18 per night.
Today, March 12, marks the first day folks can reserve a site in the new campground which officially opens on March 22. Yes, Louisiana has a new state campground, and reservations can be made here.
As to the park name? Cypremort translates from French for “dead Cypress.” Who knows, you may even see a few of them.

More new campsites ! Great news !!
Thank you, Russ and Tina! How nice. It is not huge, but seems very nice. 🙂 Thank you and safe travels! 🙂
Living in the Florida panhandle and frequently traveling to Dallas we utilize Louisiana State Parks several times a year. We have always found them to be excellent, well managed with great trails and clean bathrooms. We have wanted to keep this our little secret but with all the info about over crowding and expense I reluctantly share. Also a big thank you to all the volunteers at the Louisiana State Parks. If we were snowbirds Louisiana would be our place mostly because of the food, southern hospitality and rich history
