If your Labor Day weekend travel plans include crossing Michigan’s Mackinac Bridge on Monday, Sept. 2, keep in mind the Mackinac Bridge Authority closes the bridge 6:30 a.m. to noon for the Annual Mackinac Bridge Walk. The popular bridge connects Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas.
For those seeking alternative transportation during the event, the local Mackinac Island ferry companies offer transportation between St. Ignace, Mackinaw City, and Mackinac Island. Local transportation companies also offer shuttle service between various locations.
Want to join the Bridge Walk? It’s free (and registration isn’t required). There’s plenty to do on both sides of the bridge, like visiting Mackinaw City or Ocqueoc Falls in the Lower Peninsula or exploring St. Ignace or Fayette Historic State Park in the Upper Peninsula.
The walk begins in St. Ignace at the north end of the “Mighty Mac” in the Upper Peninsula, and in Mackinaw City at the south end of the bridge in the Lower Peninsula. Many participants walk halfway across the bridge and then turn around.
There is no fee or registration required to participate. The walk, normally about 2 hours for participants, begins at 7 a.m. You may start walking any time after the governor’s party starts the walk at approximately 7 a.m. No one will be permitted to start after 11:30 a.m., so make sure you arrive early.

Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 Wow! That is kinda cool. Well with the bridge being essentially 5 miles in length, I can understand why most just do an out-and-back 5-miler. Thanks again, have a great day, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
