How long does it typically take you to fall asleep?

How fast do you fall asleep at night? Are you barely tucked in and you fall right off to sleep? Or does it take you a few minutes?

Some of you, alas, take a while, even a long time. We feel for you—no fun, is it?

For today’s poll, please tell us about how long it typically takes you to fall asleep. We all have those times where it takes less time or more time. But for this quick survey, just give us an idea of how it goes with you most of the time.

And we’d appreciate a comment if you’re so inclined.

I answered 15 minutes, DW on the other hand is like a doll from years ago where as you laid the doll down it’s eyes closed and she’s out.

A better poll might be, “How long before you are awake during the night?”.

yup, have always instantly fallen asleep since I was a kid (I’m 66) but staying asleep past about 4am is getting hard these days – it’s too early!

I have sleep apnea and I stop breathing 6 times per hour. I am always tired. Friday august 26th I get fitted for a sleep apnea machine.

Jeff, have been on cpap for several years. Annoying but it makes a great difference in your life! Try several masks until you get a good fit.

I’ve been on CPAP since 1995. When I put the mask on and start the machine normally I am asleep almost immediately. My sleep center is tuned to the CPAP

Good to hear you’re getting a CPAP. I’ve been using one for several years, has helped me get over that tired feeling all day. Good luck.

My wife turned me on to CBD oil before bed. Two dropper loads and I sleep through the night.

I usually read, that puts me to sleep fairly quick. Except when it’s an exciting book, then I fight to stay awake.

1 rocks glass of whiskey chased with a half an ambien. Nighty night in less than 5 min.

I usually fall asleep within a few minute but I take a 10 Mg Melatonin to keep me asleep. Othewise, sometimes I’m awake in a few hours or so.

I usually go to sleep in just a few minutes and sleep deeply all night. Husband takes forever to drift off and wakes up with any little noise. He is so jealous!

I am the first 3 answers, just juggled and no, I don’t sleep well next night just because yesterday I stayed up till midnight reading. I try to go to bed with a book. Sometimes I’m not even aware of nodding off, but the book falls off me and onto the floor, waking me up. Usually I get up 2-3 times during the night for a bathroom break. The kitties come in when ever they are ready for first breakfast and nudge us till we wake. If it’s just after midnight I head back to bed-then they start nudging us for second breakfast between 5 and 7. Usually then the feeling is I may as well stay up.I usually don’t sleep well my first night. This also was my habit before RVing, staying in motels.

I am a bad sleeper. Never sleep more than 4 to 5 hours a night. I have to wait to go to bed till I fall out. True insomniac.

I fall asleep fairly quickly. My mom always called it the sleep of the just.

The military will teach (US Navy in my case) you to sleep whenever and where ever you can! I’ve never had any trouble sleeping immediately and since I’ve been put on a CPAP I’ve slept better than ever. My wife on the other hand is a far different story.
