Many RVers place a mat outside their rig’s door. This helps to keep dust, dirt, and other debris outside where it belongs. Some folks may put a tablecloth over their picnic table so they’re always ready for a meal or an impromptu board game. Place a camp chair or two on the rug and done!
However, there are RVers who go hog wild (as my dad used to say) when they decorate their campsite.
Length of stay
How much or how little you decorate your RV site often depends on how long you plan to stay at that site. If you plan to move frequently, you may choose to keep outdoor decorations to a minimum. However, if you happen to be a Winter Texan or a person who enjoys staying in one place for weeks at a time, you just might choose to decorate a little more.
Over the top

During our travels, we’ve seen setups that made my eyes pop out! I admire RVers who are not afraid to go over the top with decorating their RV site. Their decorations set them apart from others, help make their RV feel more like home, and allow for self-expression.
How about you?

My vote was sometimes, but that is a very limited sometimes. If we go to a rally of sorts, we put out our “name” sign. I sometimes put a small magnetically mounted US flag on the pin box of our 5th wheel. Being from Florida, we used to put a wind reactive bobbing and spinning “lawn” flamingo out, but with the sleazy connotation of a flamingo since they were “hijacked” by the questionably promiscuous element the flamingo stays at home.
Only put three American Flags in a bracket on my tongue jack. I put a table cloth on my picnic table. I remember reading you never know what animal was doing something on the picnic table. The other day I saw a dove on a picnic table next to it, it did its business.
Only enough to recognize the occasion.
No. It’s just extra stuff and weight I don’t need on board. It also reminds me of the old summer trailer parks that just looks junky. I’m camping not advertising for Temu.
“Yes, every time” only applies to our seasonal campsite with a larger trailer. At a minimum there is a name sign at the edge of the road with a low-power solar light. It is a long-stay 55+ park, so this is pretty common – as well as holiday decorations.
For our much smaller travel trailer, it is used mostly overnight and no longer than a week at a single campsite. For this we are pretty minimalist in what gets unpacked.
I voted “sometimes”, but it’s really “it depends” and “define decorating”. We don’t really do lights, but I have muted solar lights in a bottle, to light the dark steps for safety. The patio mat is used in some sites. I put out signs when I go to a SOTF event, maybe a string of lights (if we’re the only campers), often a flag too. I have covers for our couple of tables, we don’t use the picnic tables, they are usually not good for my bad back.
At the very least, we use a tablecloth.
No, waste of time and space. Just a tablecloth and a mat.
I will put some out for certain holidays but that’s all. Mainly I don’t want to haul the decorations.
Thank you for the question, Gail! Almost never unless we are tailgating at a football game. The only place we stay long enough to even put out a large woven rug is a campground near where we lived in Virginia for 26 years. Have a great week and safe travels!
