“Honey, it’s time to winterize Roadrunner!” “Hey, when was the last time you checked Racer’s tire pressures?” “Good ol’ Sparky. Always ready for the next adventure!”
Nicknaming an RV is a beloved tradition for many road warriors. It’s a way of giving your trusty travel companion a personality, almost like welcoming it as a member of the family. Whether you’ve dubbed your rig “Big Bertha,” “Adventure Mobile,” or “The Beast,” a nickname adds a touch of fun and familiarity to every journey. Plus, it makes for great storytelling around the campfire.
For some, the name reflects the RV’s personality or quirks. Maybe “Tippy” came from that one windy night when it felt like your travel trailer might take flight, or “Spot” from the days spent chasing the perfect boondocking location. Others go with names inspired by beloved characters, favorite places, or even inside jokes shared with travel companions.
If you’ve yet to christen your RV with a name, don’t worry—there’s still time! Think about what makes your rig unique: its color, size, or the adventures you’ve had together. The right nickname might just pop into your head when you least expect it.
So, tell us, do you have a nickname for your RV? If so, is it not too embarrassing to share with us? Please, oh please, leave a comment and tell us—we’re dying to know!

Rambling Rose
Our little Casita is Dixie Pixie.
Magic Bus. Thank you Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey. We even had a tag made for it.
Our MH is Carolina and our towed vehicle is Callie…as in Heads Carolina, Tails California from our favorite travel song Goin’ Somewhere Together (which is our FB, Instagram, and YouTube channel name).
Angry Beaver
During our years in the class-A, it was named “Great Escape”, and the TOAD was “Runaway”; (As in, from the kids).
Our grandson, however lovingly named the motorhome as “Diesel-10”, and this what it was called by everyone in the family.
Diesel-10 is a character in the Thomas the Train animations.
(Our Diesel-10 had a gasoline motor).
OUR ’77 GMC KINGSLEY IS NAMED HOMER, OUR ’76 GMC ROYALE IS NAMED ROY, AND OUR ’04 JEEP LIBERTY IS NAMED JERRY – UNLESS HE’S IN 4WD THEN IT’S GERALD.
Miss Ruth Brown after it’s accent color brown and BB Kings song- “It ain’t nobody’s business” with Miss Ruth Brown
Our 2008 Monaco Camelot is Princess Grace of Monaco.
Don Quixote.
The Fort.
Our Winnebago Sunstar is named Rolling Thunder
Lucille, the 5th Wheel
Our first motorhome was gray, and waddled a lot, so we named it the Goose. We have a trailer we pull which is also gray. Since the trailer follows the Goose, we named it the Gosling!
Thank you, RV Travel! Funny you would ask. One of my former bosses asked what we were naming RV #1, so I asked DW. She said that’s silly, we aren’t naming the RV. Fast forward a couple of years and DW named #1 “Reva the Revolution” (it was an American Coach Revolution). Once RV #2 was ordered, DW began considering names. Before we moved into #2 he was “Newton the New Aire.” Happy new year and safe travels! 🙂
Our 2024 Entegra 30z is Lola.
Our miniature poodle is named Moose. Our Airstream is The Moose Lodge.
We named our travel trailer “Haarrrvey” (say it in Pirate talk). When we first started looking at full time RVing, we would search for RV related YouTube videos on our smart TV using the voice search feature. The not- so -smart TV would always translate our voice search “RV” to “Harvey” every time. Thus was borne our travel trailer name.
Yes we call our RV Moho. It started when we got a 1979 Coachman Cadet just after we were married 33 years ago. It wasn’t big enough to be called a motorhome so it became the Moho. 4 RVs later we are in a 36 ft class A and we still call it the Moho.
Rolly… named after the sweet, little man we purchased “Rolly” from.
Two TTs. The larger one, used as a seasonal residence, is “RV” (real imaginative 🙂 ), the small single axle is “camper” (and sometimes “Rolling Hotel Room”) – equally imaginative. 🙂 🙂
We LOVE our 2011 30′ Classic Airstream. We bought it like-new six years ago. After a long time, we finally found “THE ONE” in Tucson, a long way from Oregon. We made the drive in January. On that last day from Palm Springs to Tucson, we fought through horrific rain storms and busy freeway traffic.Just before closing time, we arrived in the dark. We were exhausted as we crawled out of our truck and headed inside. But there only feet away, our Airstream was displayed in the warehouse, all by itself, with lights brightly illuminating its shiny aluminum. It was magic, as that trailer fairly glowed. It is called BLISS!
We call our trailer “Wanda” and our truck “Big Tow”. Being fans of the book and movie “Fried Green Tomatoes” we like to say tow Wanda…aka “Towanda!!!!” Because we’re older and we have more insurance. It’s fun to see how many people get it.
We have two RV’s. We call them Winni and Lance. I know, not very imaginative! We call our F350 Loretta. The first song we had on her radio “Crazy”.
Then she should have been named Patsy.
Hi, Diane. Your comment made me curious, so I just looked this up. Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline were very close friends for two years before Patsy was killed in an airplane crash. They were just five months apart in age. Loretta released “Crazy” (written by Willie Nelson) in 1977 in her album entitled “I Remember Patsy.” Here’s a link to an interesting article in Country Living magazine about their close, albeit short-lived, friendship. Have a good night. 😀 –(the other) Diane
See-more
Our gray/red travel trailer is name “little Red”. This is in honor of the “little red cabin in the woods” that my parents built before I was born, 20 minutes from home, this was where I grew up exploring the outdoors. These days, our “woods” may be the mountains of Colorado, or the desert SW, but it’s all good.
MP. MONEY PIT
For sure. We call it the bear cave. And it is decorated on the inside with a few small bears and a bear door mat. The outside has a black bear on the top front and back.
Dreamliner. My license plate is 787 GEB.
So many creative names below. Our RV doesn’t have a name but our Ford dually does. Because of the song Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley, from1958, by the Kingson trio, our dually is called “Tom” or “Tommy”. The song is about a true story of a confederate veteran named Tom Dula (pronounced Dooley) who stabbed his cheating girlfriend Laura Foster, in a jealous rage and was hanged in Statesville, North Carolina in 1868.
Our 34 foot Tiffin Allegro is named ” Tiffi ” for obvious reasons . Not very original , maybe but she has tons of personality .
Dragons Lair. There’s two of us, hence the plural.
“Old Thirsty”
Our RV is called, “The King”. but that’s because it’s a Newmar King Aire. Not overly creative but appropriate.
Our F-350 is called “DPGS” for doesn’t pass a gas station. Our Solitude is called home.
Little Nekked Bear or Boo Boo for short. It was hard to figure out a name for my 23 ft Ultra Lite Passport and the different issues I have. I have a love of bears and collect some things like bedspreads, bear lamp etc. so I decided to give part of the name of my prior mini house (Nekked Bear Inn), but add “Little” and took away the Inn. I call him Boo Boo for short. Kind of a play on the old cartoon. The spelling is on purpose. My truck is named Sophia Rose. She is turning 14 this year and still running mighty, aging gracefully and still pretty girlie.
Joliffe — a fictional character who was a member of a wandering theatrical group in medieval England. He has many adventures while seeing the country. In the modern day Joliffe, I’ve done much wandering around the country and have had adventures. I have loved every minute.
I’ve given my motorhome AND my car nicknames. My Lazy Daze motorhome’s name is Daisy — for three reasons. (1) It’s an obvious play on the brand name, (2) The Daisy is one of my birth month’s flowers and (3) I wanted to be able to say that I’m driving Miss Daisy. My Toyota ECHO is Sweet Pea, which is my other birth month flower.
Yes, we named our motorhome “Gracie”. Why? Well, mercy is God withholding due punishment and grace is God giving us an undeserved benefit. We do not deserve the pleasure of our motorhome, so it was only fitting to name her “Gracie”!
My trailer is named “Braveheart”, because the last word said by William Wallace in the movie is “FREEDOM!”.
I tow it with a white 4Runner, whom I named “Kimba” after a cartoon character I watched as a kid in the 60’s, “Kimba, the White Lion”.
When I’m doing RV repairs, our coach goes by several names, but none of them are publicly acceptable. 🙂
Hi, Richard. I have a feeling that under those circumstances, a lot of RVs frequently share the same name/nickname.🤣 Have a great day and a terrific 2025. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
My Born Free motorcoach is Simba!
Ours is named “NOETA” No Estimated Time of Arrival.
Our Coachmen Mirada is “the Spotted Dog”. Our plan when we drove from Colorado to Indiana to pick it up, was to drive the Subaru only for the break-in miles, then tow it the rest of the way home. Unfortunately for me, the electrical cable to connect the 2 vehicles had the correct number of pins, but in the wrong pattern. So, I wound up following that “spotted dog” the entire 1800 miles home.
We named our truck after my husband’s father, and the travel trailer after my grandmother and mother: Martin and Cleta Jean.
I wanted to name it Killer, but wife wanted Baby. We decided against Baby Killer and went for the Spanish for baby: Nena.
Every motorhome we have owned is called, “The Van”. All stems from our 1st RV-a 1971 VW Camper Van. “Where’s ‘X’ at?” In the van. It works!
I put all my creative genius to work and came up with…. ‘It’s in the… “motorhome” – so that is it – short, sweet and descriptive: “motorhome”! period. Enjoyed reading all the names below tho.
Our first trip took us through Oklahoma, hence the Rattletrap!
Winnebago Vista is Lizzie because she rattles like a Tin Lizzie!
Our coach is named Lilly (think toad and toad can be seen on Lilly pads)
We call our 2021 GD Image “Ashrei,” which means “blessed.”
Our Lance towable is-“Ginny’s Dream” named for my wife who is our navigator!
Three motor homes….Banana Boat 1, 2 and 3.
We call our Casita trailer “Rita”.
We named our 43′ Newmar Ventana Class A – CHAMBLU
Her colors are Champagne and Blue.
Our Winnebago Ford Transit Ekko name is Winniford.
Our travel trailer is Stella — because when we travel with her, we see the stars.
Current MH is “Lola” and toad is “Tony”. Previous 5W was “Ginger” and truck was “Fred”.
Our class-a is called Maggie from the Simpson’s cartoon. Why? She’s small, always ready for adventure, and like Simpson’s. Maggies pacifier, she sucks gas. She may get a. second name, “ItsPixi” which was a personalized plate my wife had from 1989-2004. A license plate we still own,
I used to refer to our Southwind as “Headwind”.
We have a 2019 Coachmen Leprechaun 230CB that we call ‘Lucky Charm’. we’ve traveled around FL and north on I-95 all the way to Toronto, across Lake Michigan aboard S.S. Badger and down from Wisconsin back to sunny FL. Loving it.
Enjoyed reading all the names & reasons why! Mine is simply “ Winnie”. . . .loved the Winnie the Pooh stories and adventures.
From 1978,, when we purchased our first TRAILER, we named him LENA!! 7 travel trailers later, all have had the same name!! Lena is currently a 2015 323BH, Keystone Outback!! Funny, we thought we were the only crazy ones——
We call it “Pooter” for the sound the water pump makes occasionally (and the tech insisted was totally normal, until it wasn’t).
My motorhome is The Escape Pod.
Our 2008 Tiffin Allegro Bus is named “The Old Lady”
My late wife Joyce may have started it: Buster & Bob..Silverado and 19 LN Terry.
Winnebago
