Mmmm… ice cream! We know people (maybe ourselves… shhhhh…) who eat ice cream every day and other people who never eat ice cream. (We even know people who don’t like ice cream!! Shocking!!) Where do you fall on the ice cream love spectrum?
Do you have ice cream in your freezer all the time? Sometimes? Never?
Oh, shoot. Now we want ice cream…

In the S&B, nearly all the time, in the coach, seldom, that’s what Ice Cream Stores (Aka Dairy Queen Etc.) are for.
Same here. Agree
And most campground stores have a variety of Ice Cream treats.
Only when it’s on sale and we have room in the freezer.
Due to allergies, no ice cream, but my wife makes a blueberry frozen yogurt pie using homemade yogurt from goat milk. We eat a piece after a long hike.
I answered rarely. It’s not because we don’t like it, it’s precisely because we like it so much!! If we had it, we would scarf it down and our waistlines would expand accordingly!!!
Yep
We have a 24″ top door deep freezer in our 5th wheel. We store 2-3 months of frozen items – including, yes ice cream and my wife’s favorite, dozens of frozen juice bars. When travelling (8 months each year), we transfer the frozen foods from our S&B’s home freezer, fridge (turning off both when we travel), and large pantry to our 5th wheel “box room”, which is the center bunk room converted into a large walk-in pantry & freezer room plus acts as our “mud room” for shoes, jackets, hats….. Open items are transferred to the RV fridge/freezer, pantry, or drawers in the center island. It’s our home 8 months out of the year – with all the comforts of our S&B’s.
I’m including all frozen confections in my ‘more often than not’. It does take a lot of won’t power to consume such items in moderation. Also, we buy small amounts as it allows us to pack more important foods around the containers, and further limits our consumption.
We try to keep it to individual bars, sandwich’s, etc. so that we control our portion and can spread them around the freezer to fill empty voids and not take up as much room as a box or carton.
If you have a gas/electric fridge most will not get cold enough to keep ice cream as it takes zero degrees of less to keep ice cream frozen. If you like soft serve it’ll do that.
My Norcold Gas Elect gets the ice cream hard as a rock. We have to let it sit on the counter top a few minutes to soften up enough to scoop it out.
We have a 6 cu ft Dometic LP/110 fridge with a separate freezer door. We keep ice cream in it all season. In general, the freezer runs between 10-18°, which is plenty cold to keep the ice cream we use. If it gets into the mid-upper 20s for long, it does get soft, and some varieties freeze harder anyway.
Our electric/propane freezer normally runs from zero to a few degrees below zero.
Having a residential fridge in our coach makes it much easier for us to have ice cream in our fridge. However we quit eating actual ice cream and now eat Frozen Yogurt. With todays technology, Frozen Yogurt tastes much like regular ice cream, not like the different taste of years ago. There are many brands and many flavors of Frozen Yogurt and there are also health advantages. I recommend you at least try a favorite flavor of Frozen Yogurt, you may be pleasantly surprised. Safe travels to all.
Any ice cream type products we buy never make it home.
Diabetic, but I do cheat now and then. Impossible to find sugar free ice cream here
One of life’s greatest pleasures, despite all the other issues
Here lies our problem. If we have ice cream in the freezer it disappears quickly. If we have it we’re eating it (and not in small amounts). So in order to prevent our waistlines from increasing to large portions we now only buy ice cream in single proportions at ice cream shops, stands, etc., as a treat. It may be more expensive but now we don’t eat it as much. Oh, how we want to though.
I resemble your remarks, Kevin. I endorse your strategy and will adpt it; thank you!
You are welcome and good luck. It’s not as easy as it sounds. It took awhile but we have succeeded. Yea us.
I take great pleasure from eating ice cream. Unfortunately, my metabolism no longer is high enough to eat it often. So, we rarely have it in our freezer.
If it is in freezer it disappears for some reason.
We have an RV Norcold refrig and though the freezer keeps most food frozen, it will not keep ice cream hard so if we store ice cream in the freezer section if comes out soft serve. We love ice cream but only buy what we can eat in one sitting – 1 pint sometimes 2 pints (one for each us as we don’t always want the same flavor). LOL
We nearly always have ice cream in some form in the freezer. It can be in actual ice cream containers or Klondikes, ice cream sandwiches and ice cream bars. Occasionally we will ice cream cake. Our real passion is frozen Custard from Culvers.
We never had ice when our TT and FW each had propane-electric fridges because it never stayed frozen. Our current MH has a 12v fridge, so we have hard-frozen ice cream with us on nearly every trip.
I never leave home without it! Ice cream is one of life’s necessities. Our Norcold usually keeps the ice cream firm. I do see that at times it is rather soft but at other times it is very well frozen. I see more frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment with the ice maker. I am thinking the fan on that side might need replacing.
My wife and I full timed for about 8 years until recently and health forced us to sell our trailer. We have a small freezer that we carried in the bed plugged in to the truck. When we arrived at our volunteer site we removed it and plugged into shore power. We always had/have ice cream. Now in our stx/brix we usually buy 10 1/2 gal cartons about 3 times a yr from our favorite diary, Toft’s, Sandusky OH. We’ve been known to purchase 3 gal tubs also on occasion. Got to have my Toft’s.
