When you crawl into your cozy bed at night, do you usually or ever read before you fall asleep? For some people, reading in bed at night is part of their routine. For others, maybe they only do it if the book they’re reading is just so good and gripping that they absolutely cannot put it down! But for others, they prefer their books in the morning with their cup of coffee – ah, how relaxing!
What about you? Do you read in bed at night? If so, is it every night? Only some nights? Rarely? Never? After you vote, please leave a comment and tell us when your preferred reading time is. And, if you’re currently reading something good, tell us about it, too!

Sometimes. Depending on the days events. If it’s a get up and go day I read the rvtravel news letter with coffee but the rest waits till night fall. So Google will happen at night on the phone or tablet. Better to be depressed and fall asleep with all the crap happening in the world and wake up fresh to start again then read all the crap in the morning and be depressed all day. Gets harder to find the good in this world.
I’m reading less news (regardless of the source), and trying to follow the advice of “Today’s thought”. I don’t want to waste my remaining years fretting over things I have little control over. Trying to focus the good things and blessings that are right in front of me. Hope this may help you, Skip.
If I wake up and don’t see my obituary in the morning e-paper, I will have a good day! Especially after getting a cup of coffee and sitting down to read the RV Travel newsletter.
Thanks, Herman! Have a great day. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
I don’t read in bed because I don’t want my brain to equate reading with sleep. That way I can read during the day and not fall asleep. 🙂
I’m a morning reader. Exercise for the brain, to start my day.
I listen to music before bedtime (and sometimes in bed) to help me fall asleep.
I find acoustic instrumental music the most soothing, where as singing (vocals) tend to stimulate my brain.
I’m reading a well written, thoughtful, and engaging travel diary called Blue Highways, A Journey into America, by William Least Heat-Moon. I highly recommend it.
Thanks for that suggestion Abby!
I believe that’s also one of publisher Chuck Woodbury’s favorite books, Abby. Thanks for the reminder. Have a good afternoon/evening. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
Wife reads, I go to sleep.
After retiring, I had trouble getting to sleep. At times, I would be awake for 3-4 days without sleep and then “crash” for 24 hours. I consulted a doctor. Medication to sleep (2 years), bed at the same time every night, no clock at bedside, awake when the eyes open and get up. NO TV or reading in bed. Beds are for sleeping (or pleasure). TV and reading is to be done downstairs in your chair.
I now sleep 8-9 hours every night without meds.
me too. I read before bed. no TV in stik n brik i have i sound machine so I can listen to thunderstorms
Different strokes for different folks😎
I watch TV to fall asleep. The trick is to watch something that’s not exciting but just interesting enough to stop my mind from racing. Even better is something where I can close my eyes and still follow along. I set the sleep timer on the TV.
DW does, but I don’t. DW routinely has trouble falling asleep and I routinely do not. Correlated to habitual reading or not-reading? 🤔
We both love to read- great minds travel in the same ruts! Morning, bedtime, afternoon, bathroom-it’s all good. Once I took the grands on a monthlong camping trip and didn’t bring books so I could concentrate on them. Well, I found myself falling asleep at the wheel. Even at summer camp I’d bring 3-4 books-even in Northern Tier High adventure base, where your gear is limited to what you can stuff in a 5 gallon bucket- including your sleeping bag and air mattress!
