Just read 70% of Americans are obese and the Japanese live the longest. Just say’in.

“Smoking in Japan is practiced by around 20,000,000 people, and the nation is one of the world’s largest tobacco markets, though tobacco use has been declining in recent years.”
So maybe that’s why many of the Japanese are slimmer than us.

Japanese are slimmer because they smoke more, seriously? So do more Japanese die of cancer? Maybe it’s more about diet and exercise… I love sushi!

This isn’t my opinion. I did a search for smoking by country and found this.

Need another choice, I have never tried Sushi, but if offered the chance, I would like to try it.

Dan

I’ve tried it. Just like chicken livers it would be good for bait. But, to each his own.

Today’s poll, I chose “I Hate Sushi”. Hate is a strong word that I would not have used when talking about my like or dislike of sushi. I would rather say, as someone who has owned a boat and enjoyed fishing. I never once thought of dipping my fingers into the bait bucket for a tasty snack.

Apparently you simply don’t know what sushi is.

Charlie Sullivan

Ah, that would be sashimi…fish without rice. Sushi is raw fish with rice!

All my meat is cooked, all my fish is fried, 95% of my fish is river caught Cat fish, one main bone down the middle. Fillet’s beautiful, nothing but pure white meat. What am I saying now there’ll be a run on catfish.

Reminds of huge plate of cat fish at “Cat Fish Charlies” in Gulfport, MS. Been several years ago now – but a most memorable eating (feasting?) experience! (With pickles too!)

I’ll eat it when available and I know it’s fresh. The DW won’t touch it but again she’s not a fish eater.

I really love good Sushi, but there is so much bad sushi out there that I am picky. Supermarket sushi, no way, no day.

I’m lucky that local high-end market has a sushi chef making fresh all day.

Our supermarket sushi is pretty good. Also fresh.

I think anyone that will eat sushi will kick little chickens in the ditch. My food has to be cooked not raw.

Jim Johnson

Yes, but not any sushi. Some flavors just aren’t in my wheelhouse.

I love sushi and eat it whenever I can. Unfortunately it’s so darned expensive that means very rarely.

Eat sushi? No, but I have a friend who does. No idea why, but he does.

Natalie and I have enjoyed sushi for many many years. We can certainly understand and appreciate why the majority of people say they do not want to eat raw fish. That’s why the choice of restaurants are many.

Hate is too strong a word and exemplifies much of what ails us .. kind of like sushi does for me .. but again, hate is overdoing it.🤔

Grew up on a ranch in NE Montana. Always had a steer to butcher. Then along came my granddaughter experiencing basically the same thing. My wife and I took her on a trip to California to visit my son and stepchildren. Stepson took us to sushi restaurant in San Francisco. Granddaughter agreed to try it. I glanced over to see how she was doing and I could see she was repeatedly swallowing. I asked if she was ok. Her reply, “grandpa I think that one is trying to swim back up”. Needless to say she has remained a steadfast beef advocate. I had had it before and still love it.
As a side note, my wife and I lived full time in an RV and traveled this wonderful country border to border for 10yrs.

Why is it alright to eat raw fish but chicken and beef among others has to be cooked to 135/165 degrees for fear of salmonella but waterfowl and fish that poop in the water and its alright to eat raw fish. No thank you

It’s OK because the fish that are used for sushi don’t suffer from diseases like that. Furthermore plenty of people eat beef ‘blue’ which means that in the middle it really hasn’t been cooked at all, even pork is often eaten pink now.

And besides the comment on ‘blue’ or rare beef & nice medium-cooked pork, there’s always steak tartar. Look it up. Tasty but I’ve grown out of it. Sushi – love that stuff! It’s so wonderful there are SO MANY choices in food – just like in jobs, spiritual beliefs and gender orientation. If you disagree with one or another of those, just don’t do it.

I used to eat the raw fish served in Japanese restaurants, but for some reason, sushi doesn’t appeal to me.

Greg

Tried it once ( without the raw fish). Yuck, Don’t see the appeal, never again. I will not eat any raw or undercooked meat. Nothing less than medium-well for me.

When our Japanese speaking daughter attended Waseda University in Tokyo, DW and I spent a full month becoming immersed into the area and the culture. She (daughter) introduced us to REAL GOOD SUSHI. Wife still not a fan but I can genuinely say that for me, when it is good, it’s real good. Conversely, when it’s bad it’s still pretty good “bait”. I seldom eat sushi on my own but when God blesses me with some father daughter time, it is on the must do list. I get to sit back and listen to a language I don’t understand and I know for sure, my daughter is getting us some fish from chef’s private collection.

I actually like sushi but don’t eat it that often. Many people are afraid to try something new. I had escargot for the first time last year as well. It was OK but I wouldn’t look at eating it again. I’ve have tried everything from grasshopper, rattle snake, bear, to buffalo and mountain goat.

Sooo good. I like it best lightly dusted in flour, placed in a bath of hot oil, when it floats it’s ready to eat. Bon appetit!

As a teenager sushi would have never passed my lips. Today in my 50’s sushi has been my wife and I favorite Japanese food. You must go to a good restaurant though. Do not go to any buffets that have sushi as a side option.
