What bothers you most, a neighbor’s loud music or barking dog?

Say you’re in a campground and your neighbors have a dog that just won’t stop barking. It barks at everything that moves—even a leaf that flutters to the ground. After a couple of days, they finally check out and move onward and you get your much-needed peace and quiet. Until…

A new neighbor comes in, parks, and within the hour starts playing their music loudly. And it’s music you can’t stand!

What was worse? The barking dog or the loud music? Do both bother you about equally? Or did neither one of those loud things bother you at all?

Tell us in the poll below and please leave a comment, too. Thanks!

I have dogs so barking doesn’t bother me if they hear something. Then there are some that should of been left at home or be tended to. But the music or idiot box blaring pushes my limits. But enjoy hearing someone gentle playing a musical instrument.

A dog is not being rude when it barks but people having loud music are rude.

A dog is not intentionally being rude (it doesn’t know what rude IS), but it is annoying.

But if the barking is constant or excessive, the OWNERS are rude.

Exactly right, Grumpy.

Neither one. I just figure it’s camping. Now late at night- that’s a different story.

Playing music (loud or not) misses the point of camping. Same goes with TV. Might as well stay home.

We have 2 Chihuahuas lol
Depends on what time the music is playing.
The pups barking is annoying to some and welcomed by others.
They are warning there’s people around and at night it is welcomed.
People messing around in the dark is not a good thing and they have big ears for a reason.
Red alert!!!!

In my opinion, excessively barking dogs reflect self-centered owners regardless of the dogs’ ear size.

Dogs don’t cuss.

There is no reason to have to put up with either!!!!

Both are as equally annoying. It’s common sense to me to listen to MY music at a level that only MY campsite would hear. If your dog can’t act appropriately in a social setting, then it shouldn’t be in a social setting like a campground. I don’t mean a dog can’t bark once or twice. I mean a dog can’t sit barking for hours at every little thing or while the owners are gone all day.

A barking dog can much more easily become white noise for me than extremely loud music of a genre that I dislike — hip hop and rap. Most music I can at least tolerate, if not actually enjoy. 🙂

If a dog is tied up outside and continuously barks, it starts to get on my nerves. Why bring a dog if you are going to treat it like that.

For me, dogs that bark excessively aren’t an issue of rudeness, which is a human trait, but rather an issue that the dog is bored and maybe lonely, and so they’re self-stimulating. Adult humans can have a high tolerance for noise and can be indifferent to the impact of their noise on neighbors. They may feel entitled to do as they wish and object to being asked to quiet the dog or lower the t.v. or music volume.

Loud music day & night, compounded by excessive outdoor lights at night! Why do you need so much light outside, all night, when you’re inside your RV watching your TV game shows or asleep???

Music is the most irritating, mainly because it is intentional. Barking dogs don’t bother me unless they cause our two to think they need to join in.

I guess both could be the correct answer.

Loud music definitely. It’s always crap music. No one listens to bad music quietly, no one listens to good music at 95 decibels. 😆

Non-stop barking dogs. Our dog will hear there is another dog in distress and even if he doesn’t bark in response, he is restless. (yes he is the type that all other dogs are friends until proven otherwise). And if a dog is barking non-stop it means two things: the owners are away or the owners are incapacitated and need help.

I can’t politely ask someone else’s dog to not bark, but I sure can ask someone to turn down the music. For the record if it is a one-time thing, I deal with it. I only ask people to drop the volume if it is a habitual thing.

I tend to be more irritated by loud music because that is caused by someone being inconsiderate. With a barking dog, it be more that they’re so use to it that they become oblivious to it. My dogs are barkers but know what “enough” means.

That question is like someone asking me, “would you rather have a root canal on the left side
or the right side”? You could have made this the trifecta by including “wind chimes”! I’m not a grouch, I just like quiet.

Much of today’s music sounds like a barking dog.

Survey questions like this used to come to me with a way to choose. I don’t see that any more, did I miss something?

Hi, Matt. Do you mean you can’t see the poll itself? If that’s the case, here’s how one of our IT folks explained it awhile ago: “Sometimes script blockers and ad blockers interfere with our polls since they are from a 3rd party site. If you have one of these try and turn it off and see if that fixes the issue.” Good luck! And have a great day. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

Former dog(s) owner here. Dogs bark. It’s the frequency and length of bark time. I have S&B neighbors who let barking go on every day for too long by my standards (10+ minutes). That is also the legal limit in my state for dog noise. It is beyond my comprehension how people can allow it to go on day after day.
Music is different. Bass frequencies travel a long way and through walls – even if it’s good music. Outdoor music and TVs in a tight or quiet campground are just rude. Country and hip-hop are annoying at any volume. 😉

I do not know which is worse, a dog barking, or the owner barking at the dog to shut up. And no end to either.

The neighbors pit bull acted like it was going to eat me when I went into my back yard. I never saw anyone interacting with it, only putting down food & water. I laid in a stock of dog treats and toys. It didn’t take long to convert that pit bull into someone who was happy to see me.
