Can you back up a trailer at 50 mph? This guy can!

It took a minute for this video to sink in. Yeah, yeah, it’s a racecar driver flying backward down a track with a trailer… Wait… What? WHAT?!

Most of us can hardly back into a campsite, much less fly through a racetrack backward at 50 (we’d guess) mph! How does this guy do it? Boy, we need to polish our reverse skills…

Mike Sokol, our RV Electricity wizard, sent this to us and, well, you know, any time anything makes our jaw drop, we’ve got to share it with you too. This is just pure insanity!

Watch the video below. Leave a comment if you think you could do this. And if you say you think you could do this, you’re lying.

The rear wheels of his tow vehicle are doing the steering. That makes it much easier.

I think I could do as well as he did with a little practice. He was facing the trailer with a conventional hitch. That’s takes out a lot of the mental gymnastics and there’s no steering input reaction lag like there is with a fifth wheel trailer. I use a front-mounted hitch ball on my ATV to move my conventional utility, boat, and ATV trailers around that way and it’s pretty intuitive when you’re facing the direction of travel. I don’t think I could do it at 50 mph with a heavy trailer but it looks like his mock-up trailer was hollow and likely very light and quick to respond.

If that’s a rear kitchen model there are probably pots, pans, and dishes everywhere.

Spoiler Alert: There’s a guy in the trailer driving. The guy in the car is faking it.

Any of you willing to take a ride in that trailer? Not me!!!

Looks more like 20mph tops, but great fun! I’d like to try it. But not with my truck or trailer…

This race is on every year. It’s a hoot to watch and we never miss it!

But, if you can do this, just imagine how easy it would be to back into a campsite parking space! Piece o’ cake! (Not to mention, boring.) 😆 —Diane at RVtravel.com
