The process of selling your RV, from start to finish

By Gail Marsh
So, you’ve decided it’s time to part ways with your trusty RV and pass the adventure torch onto someone else. Whether you’re upgrading, downsizing, or just ready for a change, getting your RV ready for sale is a bit like prepping it for one last epic road trip. Here’s your roadmap to make sure it’s in top-notch condition and ready to wow potential buyers.

Step 1: Clean, inside and out

Imagine you’re inviting someone into your home for the first time. You’d tidy up, right? Same goes for your RV. Give it a thorough cleaning, inside and out. Scrub the exterior, polish those wheels, and make sure the windows sparkle. Inside, declutter and deep clean every nook and cranny. A clean RV not only looks better but also demonstrates that it’s been well-maintained. Continue reading.

Ask Dave
Two leaks in RV after rain. Are they related? How do I find hidden damage?

Dear Dave,
I purchased this Class C new in April 2024. Earlier this week I drove through and camped in heavy rain. I had water leaking in around the shower skylight. I also found water in the storage compartment drivers’ side rear under the bedroom slide out. My questions are: (1) Are these two related? (2) Should I be worried about hidden water damage? (3) What should I use and how do I reseal the roof? More rain is forecast. —Larry, 2023 Minnie Winnie WF326T  Read Dave’s answer.

Quick tip
Adjust tire pressure when using a TPMS?

Tire expert Roger Marble says one TPMS manufacturer wrongly claims tire pressure should be adjusted at 70 degrees. “Not true,” says Roger. “The Tire & Rim Association states cold inflation pressure is measured at the current ambient temperature, not a set number, and doesn’t include pressure buildup from driving. The key definition is that of ‘ambient temperature,’ which is the air temperature of an environment or object.”

Some are confusing SATP or ‘Standard Ambient Temperature and Pressure’ as used in a chemistry lab as a reference. “This isn’t a chem lab,” he says. Cold pressure should be measured when a tire hasn’t been driven or in direct sunlight for two hours. Thanks, Roger!

Readers’ pet of the day

“We got Mocha (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) at 8 weeks and started traveling with him around 12 weeks. We call him our ‘karma’ pup because we got him via a stroke of luck after rescuing a stranded couple and their dog off the summit of Mount Washington, NH. He is our fourth Cavalier, though first male. He, like all Cavaliers, thinks the world, rightfully, centers on and revolves around him! He has traveled over 50,000 miles and loves sniffing new places. He is living a dog’s best life!” —Ron Taylor

Send us a photo of your pet with a short description. We publish one each weekday in RV Daily Tips and in our Sunday RV Travel newsletter. No blurry photos, please! Please do not submit your photo more than once. Thanks!

Mocha is a beautiful Cavalier. I’m glad he is enjoying the best life a dog can have.

We have a Boykin Spaniel with the same attitude. He is referred to as the “Little Brown Swamp Poodle.” Same story, picked him up at 8 weeks and has been traveling ever since. He’s a year and a half old.

I am not a grocery store employee. Not only do I not provide my own bags, I don’t use the self check out either!

I agree somewhat. I do bring my own cloth bags, when I remember to take them out of the car, but I definitely prefer to not use the self checkout.

People like you are part of the problem when it comes to reducing land waste. Sad to hear you do not do your part to protect the planet.

Those TPMS gadgets may be a good thing for some…but nothing beats a reliable tire pressure gauge and checking those tires when road tripping…get off the duff and get some exercise while at it.

Tpms work really good for what they are designed for– keeping tabs on air pressure while traveling. Hard to check with gauge going 60 mph.
Also have them on toad since I can’t see it behind my motorhome.
As for exercise go out and get some real exercise.

Good luck with THAT method! What would you do if one of your tires picked up something that caused a slow leak since you last checked. Once that tire loses 25% of its air, it is considered a FLAT tire and has sustained permanent damage. However, you plan to check it maybe 100-200 miles down the road. By that time you are more than likely to have a complete blowout on that tire once the low tire starts to heat up. Ignorance is bliss!

Hi, Dan. Sorry about that. When I checked all of the links last night, they worked. So, I just rechecked them all now, based on your comment, and they all still work for me. I haven’t heard about anyone else having issues. In fact, almost 1,000 readers have participated in the poll so far, so it must be something in your device (gremlins?😉). Have a great day. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

Fifty years ago I was working on my boat and dropped a nut in the lake. My buddy flew helicopters so I got one from him. I asked, “How much?” He said I didn’t want to know. Apparently $5.00 for one nut a half-century ago.

I love the “Leave here with a laugh” meme. Every time I see RV toilet paper selling for an insane premium over single ply, I know there’s someone out there who’ll swear their holding tank will leach it better.

Maine and maybe a few other states require you to bring your own bags or else be charged to use their bags. I bring my own all the time. No plastic no foot prints and only discarding what cannot be recycled. Reduce reuse recycle.
