I never knew that “sheep camps” were a thing until visiting some friends’ ranch about a year ago. On it, they had a smaller, much older sheep camp trailer that had been rescued from another friend’s property. That vintage trailer, while small, was cozy with a full-sized bed, a small camp kitchen, and a fabulous wood-burning stove.
In the video below from Peak Mountain Camps, we get a tour of a modern updated sheep camp trailer and it is, indeed, mighty impressive.
Peak Mountain Camps takes the sheep camp RV to a whole new level, customizing luxurious traveling homes on the range for their clients. Originally designed for, and still used as, sheepherder’s cabins, some of these are now full-time RVs on the road! Peak Mountain Camps bills itself as constructing both recreational and range camps. The model in the video is their X32.
I love that the interior design and space with its curved roof is quite reminiscent of a Vardo or Romani gypsy wagon. And even though this is an updated modern version, it still has that amazing wood-burning stove. And the air from the stove circulates to heat the tanks, as does air from the furnace. Reclining sofas let you enjoy both the fireplace and the TV.
You have a full kitchen with a stove and convection/microwave/air fryer oven, and a large refrigerator/freezer. The three-person dinette converts to additional sleeping space, but there is also a queen-sized bed in the front of the trailer, with another single bunk above that!
The dry bath is small but functional and stylish with wood paneling, a porcelain sink, a toilet, a good-sized shower, and lots of storage.
More nice features of Peak Mountain Camps X32 Sheep Camp Trailer
- Pull-out exterior camp stove
- Two 100-watt solar panels
- Heated tanks
- Electric tongue jack
- Fantastic vent fan
- Pull out pantry
What’s not to like?
It’s HEAVY, so if you plan on traveling in this trailer you will need a robust truck to tow it.
Also, it’s a personal preference, but I hate the metallic gold trim. It just seems out of place in such a rustic-styled rig.
Peak Mountain Camps X32 Sheep Camp Specs
There are not a lot of specs to report as each of these sheep camp trailers is custom-made to the customer’s specifications. But for point of reference, the trailer in the video was:
- Length: 32’ bumper to tongue; 26’ trailer box
- Dry weight: 10,460 pounds

I would expect that these custom trailers do not come cheaply. Any idea what one like this cost? I love the extra features like the wood stove, the camp chef hidden under the sink and the placement of the door.
Digging through their website I was finally able to find the “starter” price of $64,000. As you add options the price goes north from there, of course. The Dry weight of 10,460 pounds is huge for a 30′ sheep herder’s trailer.
That thing is Ooooogly! Ugly! Who cares! Sounds like their quality is world’s above Indiana Crap.
Pay for Quality. Don’t pay for Crap.
Yep, looks like quality. But one man’s Ooooogly is another man’s Loooovly.
Having come from Wyoming…sheep country…I would like to see someone make it through a Wyoming winter anywhere along I-80…in one of these cracker boxes.
Absolutely gorgeous!!!!!
Thank you, Cheri! 🙂 Nice looking rig! Thank you for finding and sharing this! Have a great weekend, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
