Smile your way through the top dog photos of 2023

RVers love their dogs! Even if you don’t currently have a canine to call your own, you’re going to love the winning photos in 2023’s top dog photography contest. Photographers from around the world sent in their best snapshots for the Dog Photographer of the Year contest, and now they’re available for all of us to enjoy.

Four categories

Camera enthusiasts competed in four distinct categories:

  • Action: Dogs were captured in a variety of activities. The results are both fascinating and enthralling. We’ve all tossed a Frisbee for our furry pal to catch and retrieve. It’s a common sight that suddenly becomes uncommon as the camera stops the action mid-jump, and we marvel as the dog goes airborne.
  • Portrait and landscape: In this category of the competition, dogs can be seen in natural surroundings. It’s difficult to determine which one captures our focus first—the dog or its setting. Then, as we look deeper, we can almost smell the ocean and or touch the sand. It’s as if we’re viewing the scene from the dog’s own perspective and it’s wonderful.
  • Studio: Photos in this category attempted to capture the personality of the dogs as they posed for the camera. In the best of the best in the studio category, photographers use light and shadows to give viewers a glimpse into the heart and soul of the dogs they picture.
  • Dogs and people: I love this final category in the 2023’s top dog photographs. Winners surely were able to catch and hold the connection dogs make with their dog parents—and vice versa. It’s beautiful!

Prizes for the best dog photos of 2023

Winners from this year’s contest won cash, fine art prints, and photo gear. Oh! Also, an engraved trophy, of course!

Take a look

As you look through some of the winning photos, be sure to also read the comments that follow each snapshot. They will help you understand and appreciate the photographs even more. You’ll find the winners here. (Be forewarned! The pics may make you seriously consider getting a dog. Or another one!)

Photos are nice. I was hoping, though, they were the favorite non- professional pet shots sent to rvtravel. Maybe, next time?

Ditto. I can get dog pictures all day long on the internet. I was assuming they would be readers’ pets.

Wow! Crazy good photography! But no Gail, still won’t consider getting another dog after the heartbreak of losing my last girl. She was the sweetest dog on the planet, and I just couldn’t bear to go thru that again.

So sorry for your loss, Matt. I know how heartbreaking losing a dog can be. For most of us, it’s losing a very good friend.

I’m happy you enjoyed the photos. Travel on!

Thank you, Gail! We have an extra dog, if you’d like one. 😉 I’m serious, but DW isn’t at all. 🙁

Mostly great photos but I threw up in my mouth a little when I saw No. 26.

I had to go back to see which one you were referring to. Not into tattoos, eh?😉 Have a good night, Gary. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
