Space heater causes a recall from Forest River – Fire risk in the ceiling

Here’s an unusual one: A space heater causes a recall from Forest River. Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2024 IBEX and No Boundaries travel trailers. The recessed space heaters may have been installed too close to the ceiling. Says the recall notice, “Inadequate clearance around the heaters increases the risk of a fire.” Potentially, 98 RVs are affected by this recall.

Remedy

Dealers will reinstall the heaters, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 1, 2024. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-642-1612. Forest River’s number for this recall is 91-174.

Background of how a space heater causes a recall from Forest River

A concerned RV dealer reported finding discoloration in the ceiling above a unit’s Cadet heater. The installation instructions for the heater indicate the minimum clearances required from the bottom, left, and right of the Cadet heater. As to clearance requirements above the unit, the information was printed on a sticker on the back of the heaters.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

And the Forest River recalls keep piling up! If I’m the CEO, I’m firing my quality control manager. They clearly have very serious problems in their quality and production controls as well as their supplier management processes.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! Well, with so few affected units, I congratulate Forest River for taking ownership. I also hope that they get their act together, as they really do seem to have a recall of some type every week. I am glad that I’m not a shareholder, but, if they do get things fixed, then it might be a good time to buy their stock. Safe travels! 🙂
