Runaway motorhome clobbers grandmother and toddler — video

Run over in the Land Down Under. That’s the seeming take on the runaway motorhome in Melbourne, Australia, earlier this week. Dramatic footage shows another driver backing out of the way as the runaway motorhome hurtles down a street. Sad to say, a grandmother pushing a “pram,” or baby carriage, wasn’t able to clear the path.

Runaway motorhome cuts coffee break short

According to reports from the area, the 30-ish driver had stopped for a cup of coffee. After he left the rig for his java, the rig, for reasons yet to be determined, took off on a roll. The driverless rig continued down the road for better than a block, nearly hitting an oncoming passenger rig. The driver of that vehicle astutely “put it in reverse” and backed out of the way.

However, two older women, each with a pram, also ended up in the path of the oncoming RV. While one was able to escape, the other, a grandma in her 70s, along with her pram-passenger, her 2-year-old granddaughter, weren’t so fortunate. While the child escaped with minor injuries, the grandmother was later airlifted to a hospital, and is listed as serious but stable.

The RVer, on seeing his rig become a runaway motorhome, gave chase. The rig jumped a curb, finally stopping when crashing into a plumbing supply shop. Police are investigating, and the RVer is cooperating.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! The poor woman! 🙁 I’m glad that the child was not injured. Yikes! That was one really expensive cup of coffee! 🙁 Safe teavels! 🙂
