The 2024 Arctic Wolf 27SGS 5th wheel by Forest River makes good use of space

In the video above we join the team from Big Truck Big RV (one of the nominees for our 2024 RV Video Awards) for a walk-through of the 2024 Arctic Wolf 27SGS fifth wheel.

JD begins the video by stating outright that despite some of the numbers you will see in the video, the 5th wheel is NOT 1/2-ton towable. For a detailed explanation of why not, watch the video, or just know you will need a 3/4-ton or larger truck.

I love the look of this rig when you walk in the door. This fifth wheel looks bigger on the inside than on the outside.

You enter the kitchen, which includes a large island for either food prep or bar seating. The kitchen back wall has even more counter space, and you’ll find a full-sized stove and 12-volt fridge.

The living and dining area is a nice, cozy space surrounded by lots of windows—so you can always enjoy the views.

More nice features of the Arctic Wolf 27SGS

  • 35,000 BTU furnace
  • 5,200 BTU electric fireplace
  • 15,000 BTU A/C
  • 100W roof mount solar panel (expandable to 450W)
  • Outdoor shower
  • Tankless water heater
  • Queen-sized bed
  • Prepped for Furrion backup camera
  • Back exterior storage travel rack
  • Large pass-through storage
  • Auto-leveling
  • LED-lit electric awning

What’s not to like?

I am not a fan of 12-volt fridges unless the rig comes with a LOT of solar power—and this one does not.

The bathroom has an extra-large sink—which is OK, but the space could have been better used with a smaller sink and more counter space.

The bedroom has a nice amount of closet space, but the doors open extremely awkwardly. There must be a better solution than what they used.

Thank you, Cheri! 🙂 This is a really nice RV. I find it interesting that such a small (<30') RV requires a 3/4-ton truck, but nearly 5 tons is a lot of weight to move, and, once moving, to stop. The tank volumes seem a bit disproportionate, with gray twice the size of black. The price does seem accessible, particularly to those with negotiating skills. Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂
PS to Diane. Have a great day MM! 🙂

NO fifth wheel is 1/2-ton towable, no matter what Keystone Cougar and Forest River dealers may suggest. Car dealers even buy into that lie. A Toyota dealer told a couple that, “sure, this brand-new Tundra can tow a fifth wheel”, so they bought it. Three days later, they wanted to buy our small Rockwood fifth wheel so they could take their 3 teenage grandsons camping. I E-mailed them a photo of our “yellow sticker” and told them that their payload capacity was too low to handle five adults, a fifth wheel hitch, and our pin weight. They took the photo to the sales manager and the dealer admitted they were wrong. But it was too late–the truck was theirs! And the 1/2-ton brand doesn’t matter!

Thank you, Steve H! I did not know that all 5th wheels overwhelmed 1/2-ton trucks. Thank you and safe travels! 🙂

Thanks, Neal. I hadn’t noticed that, obviously.😕 But a fifth wheel is a trailer and it travels. However, I guess whether it’s considered a fifth wheel or travel trailer all depends on the hitch. And I thought I was persnickety. It’s been corrected, so you can go on about your day now, Neal.😉😅 Go cut up some more downed trees or mow your acreage or whatever.👍 Have a great day. 😀 –Diane

You’re very welcome, Diane! 🤔😯😉😆😅😂😊 I would, but it is raining. I am making do with doing laundry and running the dishwasher. Oh, almost forgot. I do need to go get 20 gallons of gasoline so we can start mowing once the grass/weeds dry. Thank you for reminding me! 🙂 😉 We hope to get two ponds with breached banks fixed later this week (we are finally coming up on the guy-who-does-pond-restorations’ schedule 😎). Burning is allowed today, but we got our last brushpile burned yesterday. Have a great day, MM! 🙂

The Cherokee “Arctic Wolf” brand name is, to me at least, a blatant rip-off of the Northwood “Arctic Fox” brand. But the Cherokee is not even close in quality to the Northwood, just a lot cheaper due to its lower quality. The Arctic Fox is a true 4-season RV, while the Arctic Wolf just pretends
to be. Cherokee ought to call it the “Arctic Coyote” because the coyote is “The Trickster” to some Native Americans.
