In the video below, we join Nick V for a tour of an unusual lightweight tiny travel trailer, the 2024 Forest River Wolf Den 16EV.
According to Nick, the Wolf Den is a lower version of Forest River’s popular Wolf Pup travel trailers. What makes it so unusual is that it is 100% electric, no propane at all. Which could be a plus or a minus depending on your point of view (count me in the minus column).
Also, as this is a budget version of the Wolf Pup, there are a whole lot of features included with the Wolf Pup that are NOT included in the Wolf Den. These include:
- Speakers, neither indoor or outdoor
- A spare tire!
- Backup camera
- Solar
- Tankless water heater
- Wi-Fi router
- Alloy wheels
- Propane
- Large refrigerator
- 4 jacks
- Upgraded stairs
Don’t expect ANY of those great features in this bare-bones rig.
That said, it does have some nice amenities such as the microwave convection oven that also has a built-in air fryer. There’s a 3.3-cubic-foot refrigerator with a tiny freezer compartment. There’s a nice amount of pantry space. On the downside, I wish there was more room for food prep, and there is no cooktop.
The 5000 BTU electric LED fireplace space heater adds a nice ambiance along with warmth to the interior.
The dry bath is large, albeit missing a sink. If I were the designer, I think I would have made a smaller wet bath and added some kitchen space.
In theory, this small trailer sleeps 7. There are three bunks in the back, the queen bed in front, and the dinette that also converts to a bed.
More nice features of the 2024 Forest River Cherokee Wolf Den 16EV
- For a small trailer, it has a big cargo carrying capacity of 2,498 pounds
- 13,000 BTU air conditioner
- 12-foot electric awning
- Camper queen-sized bed
What’s not to like?
As long as you are OK with always using a generator or always being plugged into shore power, the trailer is OK (at best). But somehow I doubt that most folks who want a travel trailer this small would be OK with that. There will be a solar package, but when the video was shot, even that was not available. All electric. This would earn this rig a big “no” from me as I love camping off-grid, but you might feel differently.
Beyond that, I found a lot to nitpick about in this trailer:
- I realize this is an all-electric RV, but there is no stove at all. Why not add at least a convection cooktop burner?
- The kitchen sink is too tiny to realistically envision doing dishes there, and there is hardly any counter space.
- The shelving around the bed is just silly, unless you never plan to move at all.
- The cabinets lack struts.
- There is no bathroom sink, only a kitchen sink.
- The bathroom skylight is nonsensically NOT over the shower, so don’t expect extra headroom.
- There are only two stabilizer jacks in the back of the trailer. The front is only stabilized by the tongue jack.
- The trailer does not even come with a spare tire!
- Overall it all looks incredibly cheaply made. Then again, this is a lower-cost RV.

What are your thoughts about the Wolf Den 16EV travel trailer? Leave them in the comments below.
As for me, it would be a hard no. I just found way too much not to like about this travel trailer. Yes, it is cheap(er), but you could get a good quality used trailer with far more amenities for around the same price…even the sale price. To my mind, that makes a lot more sense.

Large cargo carrying capacity because it’s basically a shell.
I’ll stick to my lilSnoozy, thank you. Half the weight, 3 times the windows, and came with a portable induction cooktop. Prefer my blackwater cassette toilet that can be dumped into a toilet. Spare tire was optional, so I got one. On pickup they’d forgotten to install the Fantastic Fan in the br and the extra portal to storage, I was only able to have the extra door portal added in, the guy who installed fantastic fans was off that day. Due to my lighter weight I can pack a LOT more into storage.
Seems like a waste. What good is a TT without a cooktop and no vanity to wash hands in bathroom.
Seriously? A ton of cargo capacity on a TT this small with a single axle? Is there an entire tray for ‘optional’ batteries, or what?
I’m with Cheri on all the things she dislikes. Not even a fart-fan in the head. The stabilizer jacks are too close to the axle to do any good (in my opinion). Why is it that the smaller the trailer, the more people they try to show it sleeps? Air fryer? We all do know that an “air fryer” actually fries nothing, right? I’m sorry but there is nothing here that makes sense to me. You’ve always got to have hookups or a generator to make this work. Did the idea for this trailer come at the end of a lengthy after-work cocktail party?
I have to say that since I have been doing this RV Tour column, this is the worst RV I have yet to see. You are correct Tommy, pretty much nothing about it makes sense.
We had a two-axle TT that was only 9″ longer, but 700# lighter. It had a 3-burner cooktop, gas oven, microwave, twin kitchen sinks, dry bathroom with a vanity and sink, and a 7.3 cu. ft. fridge. Despite it’s lighter weight, it had laminated fiberglass walls, a torsion axle suspension, a N-S walk-around queen bed, and a sofa slide. It had no bunks, so it was roomy enough for the two of us to tow for 27,000 miles, including a trip to Alaska. Compared to our TT, this Wolf Den is a piece of junk!
Sounds nice. What brand and model was it?
As a young family just starting out and buying a used 16-camping trailer, there is a lot to like in the floor plan of this small affordable trailer. That is where it ends though. Lack of propane for cooking and refrigeration is a deal breaker for all the dry camping we did in National Parks and State campgrounds. I do not see a target buyer for this RV which also shows spartan construction and materials.
Thank you, Cheri! Well, it can be as good (better?) to know what NOT to buy as what TO buy. Thank you again! 🙂
