Toyota recall – More air bag woes

In a giant-size recall covering three model years, a Toyota recall will affect a million owners in the U.S. alone. Toyota is recalling certain 2020 through 2022 model year vehicles including various Avalon, Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Lexus ES250, ES300H, ES350, RX350 Highlander and Sienna Hybrid vehicles. A short circuit in the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensors could cause air bags not to deploy as designed. The sensors ensure air bags do not deploy if a small adult or child is sitting in the front seat.

Remedy

Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the OCS sensors, and, if necessary, replace them at no cost to owners. For all involved vehicles, Toyota will notify customers by the middle of February 2024.

Toyota recall notes

As of press time, the official federal recall notice had yet to be published. We are unable to provide contact information for Toyota/Lexus customers, nor the NHTSA recall number. To see if your vehicle is involved in a safety recall visit Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information.

Owners may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Russ and Tiña De Maris
Russ and Tiña De Maris
Russ and Tiña went from childhood tent camping to RVing in the 1980s when the ground got too hard. They've been tutored in the ways of RVing (and RV repair) by a series of rigs, from truck campers, to a fifth-wheel, and several travel trailers. In addition to writing scores of articles on RVing topics, they've also taught college classes for folks new to RVing. They authored the book, RV Boondocking Basics.
