Haunted? Nestled in the heart of San Diego’s Old Town, the Whaley House is widely considered one of the most haunted houses in America. Built in the 1800s on land previously used for public hangings, this old Victorian mansion has more than its share of ghost stories. Visitors often report eerie sightings and sounds—doors opening on their own, ghostly footsteps, and even apparitions of past residents.

Tragic family history. The Whaley family, who once called this place home, endured a series of tragic events, including the death of family members and business failures. Their spirits, many believe, still roam the house’s eerie hallways. So, whether you’re a history buff or a paranormal enthusiast, a tour of the Whaley House might just give you an encounter you won’t soon forget.
