Wide swath of the Midwest under severe weather watch

The National Weather Service has predicted a severe storm potential for the central part of the U.S. today (5/19/2024). Extreme storms are possible, with a continuing storm potential extending until Wednesday as it moves eastward.

Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and extreme western Missouri may expect strong thunderstorms, large hail, tornadoes, and damaging straight-line wind gusts up to 75+ miles per hour.

This storm potential follows the deadly derecho that hit Texas and Louisiana on Thursday. That storm packed winds up to 100 mph and left at least seven people dead and more than one million people without power.

The National Weather Service recommends people in the forecasted area and points east pay attention to local weather reports and be ready to take necessary precautions.

Thank you, Gail! 🙂 Sounds ominous. We have room to host you here in the SE corner of East Tennessee in the event you need to “get out of Dodge.” Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂
