Forest River RV recalls fifth wheels for exit window error

If you have one of the Forest River fifth wheels noted below, you’ll soon get a major exterior remodel for free thanks to a misplaced exit window. Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2024 Sabre fifth wheels because an emergency exit window was installed on the wrong side of the vehicle. A missing emergency exit window could prevent or delay occupants from exiting in the event of an emergency, increasing the risk of injury. A total of 101 of these units are involved in the recall.

Remedy

Dealers will install an emergency exit window, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 10, 2024. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-2100. Forest River’s number for this recall is 62-1785.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Window error background

Production of this model began last August, and continued on through May 10. After several months of production, “a routine Corporate Standard Audit” showed that instead of having an emergency exit window on the street side of the rig, it had been installed on the curb side. Safety practice indicates that emergency exit windows need to be either on the street side, or the rear of the rig, lest a roll-over onto the rig’s curb side traps occupants or a fire blocks access to the entry door.

On May 24 of this year, Forest River’s Office of Corporate Compliance got word of the window goof. A week later, the Corporate Recall Committee voted to recall.
