Does your Winnie whistle a merry tune? If the “noise level” in your motorhome has increased, and it seems to be coming from the entry door area, look out! Thousands of Winnebagos are being recalled because their door glass could fall out. The Winnebago glass fail problem strikes Navion and View rigs.
Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Winnebago View and Navion recreational vehicles equipped with certain Lippert Metallarte door assemblies. The door assembly may have been manufactured with incorrect window adhesion, causing the window to loosen or detach. A window that detaches during transit can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. The potential number of units affected is listed at 5,313.
Winnebago glass fail remedy
A remedy is under development at this time. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 30, 2024. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-800-537-1885. Winnebago’s number for this recall is 191.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to nhtsa.gov.
Hundreds of windows reported loose; a couple fall out
Winnebago started the recall ball rolling in late September when its product safety folks got wind of problems with a Lippert-provided door. Looking back in history, Winnie found that since 2019, 121 claims were filed for door glass issues, including two “unconfirmed detachments.”
Evidently Lippert wasn’t in the dark. Winnebago reports, “It was also found that Lippert provided repair instructions regarding the process of re-adhering the window to the door assembly.” One wonders if other RV manufacturers have used these same doors. If so, the Winnebago glass fail could be the tip of the iceberg. We may be seeing more door glass recalls in the future.

That’s a Winadago for you!!!!!!! Pun Intended!
Lippert, there’s that name again. Winne used to make their own doors and hardware where they could control the quality.
I am always astonished at the lack of data mining that seems to be done by the RV industry. Over 5 years of repair info and Winnebago is only now “noticing” this? Do none of these manufacturers assign a single employee to monitor public chat rooms and FB groups, where owners are forever detailing issues with their products? I’m glad for the recall, better late than never – but this is something that any business with the eye on their data should have caught. And of course, shame on Lippert for not providing a heads up to their actual customers, instead of the end users.
We were one of the “lucky” ones to have this happen on our ‘21 View late last year. The dealer told us they couldn’t just glue it back on, the whole door needed to be replaced. Which meant that the new door had to be painted to match our design. Fortunately, they did it under a “customer appreciation program” so we did not have to pay.
NOTE: we found out that repairs under warranty do not go to Winnebago, they go to some other company that handles the repairs and warranty process. When we were at the factory getting repairs redone that had been handled under warranty the repair center had no records of any of the warranty repairs.
Thank you, Russ and Tina! Remarkable at the number of ways RV manufacturers/assemblers can do something wrong. Have a great week and safe travels!
