Shuttlebus service in one of the National Park Service crown jewels is temporarily tarnished. On Monday, August 19, Zion shuttlebus service took a severe hit.
Zion National Park managers posted a short warning on the park website: “There will be extremely limited shuttle service. Visitors should expect delays at shuttle stops in town and in the park.”
Zion shuttlebus service relief by Wednesday
The shuttle shortage is slated from Monday through Wednesday of this week. While the Park Service didn’t comment on the cause of the shuttle shortfall, local media outlet, the St George News poked around a little more.
The outlet reports a news release—which RVtravel.com staff could not locate—says, “Service was limited due to a safety issue … [and] shuttle buses are being assessed and repaired.” Just what that “safety issue” is was not disclosed.
Zion National Park was one of the first of the nation’s parks to begin shuttle service, back in 2008. Some of the earliest shuttles were propane-fueled. The latest generation of Zion shuttlebus service is via a fleet of electric units.
“Until Wednesday, Aug. 21, one bus will operate in Springdale rather than the normal two,” says the St George News report. “Usually, 12 buses are operating in the park. [Jeff Bradybaugh, superintendent of Zion National Park] said this limited capacity could result in longer-than-usual waits at shuttle stops.”

Electric shuttle buses..what could go wrong ?!
My first thought too….electrical issues.
Rechargeable batteries maybe??
We are currently at Zion this week. A gentlemen with the bus company said the electric buses were placed “out of service” this week due to a “recall”. They’ve brought in diesel buses from St. George today.
Thanks for the update, Greg.👍 Have a great day, and a good time at Zion. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
Thank you, Russ and Tina! 🙂 DW rode a shuttle bus at Zion for 3 or 4 hours while I entertained dog #2 in July 2022. She saw the scenery she craved and I avoided the crowds I abhor; win win! 🙂 Thanks again, have a great day, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
