It sounds like something out of a dark movie. A guy comes up to you on the street and says, “Psst! Want to buy a watch cheap?” Then he rolls up his sleeve, displaying a half-dozen Rolexes. There’s a similar game making the rounds. It’s a great deal on a Starlink Kit, saving big bucks. But in the end, the Musk tech company could have the last laugh.
Great deal on a Starlink Kit may not be so great after all
It works (or doesn’t) this way. Starlink Mini, which retails for $599 in the U.S., sells for about $200 in some Latin American countries—Colombia, for example. Some enterprising souls are buying up Starlink Kits in these lower-priced areas, then flipping them to unsuspecting U.S. bargain shoppers.
The folks at Starlink are not amused. The company has rolled out a new “outside region fee.” Fire up your new Starlink Mini in the U.S., when it was originally sold in another Starlink region, and faster than you can upload the word “Bam!” you could see an additional charge on your Starlink bill. A pricey one—a potential $300 add-on actuation fee.
Starlink carves up the planet into six user regions: U.S. and Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Oceania (South and Central Pacific Ocean region). Use a Starlink Kit in a region where it was not originally sold can lead to this nasty fee.
Offered a great deal on a Starlink Kit? Starlink says you’re best off buying directly from them, or from an “authorized” dealer.

So basically we here in the US get soaked while others in the lesser developed nations get deals. Interesting. Charge what the market will bear.
I agree with you completely Tommy. It is not just the case with Starlink tho. From NATO to Pharma, we do the lifting and the rest of the world reaps the benefits.
Thank you, Russ and Tina! 🙂 Wow! 😯 Thank you for the warning! 😯 Have a great week, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
